I became inactive in 1997 and currently do not know of my status within the ADF but will find out when I go in for a brief before i go to Hong-Kong and Thailand for Xmas Break
curious as to whether you are an ex chook or worked with chooks in another life.

the reason for asking is that the only other blokes I know who had to check on travel issues (when I worked for SMS) in a 7-10 year time frame were the blokes who used to wear blue lanyards or use to work "with" blokes with blue lanyards on small teams.

that should be vague enough for you and A-Digger to understand where I'm going with this....

When you become in-active you have to attend yearly med/dental boards, weapons qual and undertake the BFA. It may be nothing more sinister than that.

If he is what you think, he'd probably be loathe to mention it here anyway...

we have had a chook on here before, so I thought he might have responded in a similar fashion.

the diff for bl lanyards is that depending on their service, they might need prior approval to travel.

I had a mate who was subjected to travel restrictions - absolutely stuffed their relationship in the end.

Even once they're no longer active? I know they have a higher security classification then regular Digs, but it seems a bit tough that restrictions are in place even once they've discharged???

in his case - absolutely. he was required to clear his itinerary and get approval if wanting to go OS.
I take it by chooks you're referring to the chooks who hang with the chook stranglers, and not chooks in the general sense. :) We sometimes call ours 'Chooks' but more usually 'Dags' - that useless piece of s--t that hangs off the arse-end of an Officer.

The common, garden-variety chooks are cleared to Secret but that shouldn't affect their travel after they've left the service.

From who. ADF or DFAT?

He could not have been completely "out" or at least looking seriously at getting back in.

Once I'd left the service, with no intention to return I'd tell them exactly what they could do with their "clearance" for my personal movements...

i only speculate, but could there have been something in his service which meant he had too clear his travel, severe Discipline or some secret Chook thing?

Both. I'm assuming that he was on callback. He's not exactly chatty about this stuff. In fact I'm clueless as to what he did when active. Like every other bloke I've worked with or met in their trade, they say bugger all about their time on the job. In fact, I wouldn't even try to ask as I'd be told to mind my own business in brutal short sentences. ;)

He did try that. And it did stuff up his relationship as his ex couldn't cope. She lives in London and he had to detail his itinerary everytime he emplaned. She absolutely hated it and I know it caused considerable grief.

sorry for the late reply, been working late just got up. reason for the brief was overseas travel to china for hand over it was approved tenantively with conditions so much so that i could not reasonably fulfill them and i don't know what my offical status is, Veteren affairs do not have my record even though I was injured on active duty a number of times, the ADF can not find my Mil Record, sorry my color isnt blue its red and has been my whole life that and although yes i may have worked with them a number of times from 90-95. There is too much background and speculation as to why i am in-active in this form, there are a number of incidents that would require it although i can not remember clearly all details and don't really care to mention yes i have considered pretty much all that you are thinking and have been in conversations about reentering once my classification is determined offically. like i say there is alot of gaps which i can not fill espesially here.

Mechanised vs Motorised

Mechanised Vehicles
Bushmaster
M113...for the love of god why do we still have these:rolleyes:
ASLAV[/QUOTE]

Bushmaster and ASLAV are technically motorised since they are basicaly armoured trucks. Mechanised refers to tracked vehicles due to their all-terrain capability despite claims to the contrary made by official Army sources and manufacturers.

Cheers
