F-35 Program - General Discussion

If you can't recognise a troll who was only here to stir things up, that is your issue, not mine.

Want to debate things, fine, by all means, that is the point of this website afterall. But he wasn't interested in debate, he was merely interested in 'showing us' how deficient the F-35 supposedly is, hence his original link to that nutcase and fraud 'Soloman Snafu' blog.

Hence why he never debated, only asked us to comment on what had already clearly informed his opinion.

If you don't care for that reality, again your issue pal...
your point you replied to counter the link supplied and your reason were valid, at no time did he counter it and I don't always see it as trolling if they don't know any better, If you first reactions he was trolling why reply in the first instance.*

Your second counter seemed more about playing the man instead of playing the ball and that's the whole point of the forum*

Official warning issued to t68. If you had real concerns, you should have taken it off-line with the rest of the Mod Team - but instead you chose your current course of action.

What is your problem - with oxygen thief management? Your response is equally unreasonable. It is evident that Ranger25 is a troll, as he has been a member of this forum since 2012 and at the start of each of the three F-35 threads, we clearly state the following quoted below:-

Dear Members,

In view of the length of the old F-35 Discussion thread (at 206 pages), the Mod Team have decided to close the old thread. From today onwards, members can continue their F-35 discussions in new threads. To organise these discussions, we have decided to split these discussions into three threads namely:

(i) F-35 Program - General Discussion (covering all common platform issues, like the helmet system, program office news, GAO reports, and weapons integration);

(ii) F-35B/C - Naval Air Discussions (covering all aircraft news specific to the USMC and the USN); and

(iii) F-35 - International Participation (Partners, SCP and FMS Sales Discussions).

We provide links to each of the other F-35 discussion threads above and this is No. 1 of 3 threads on the F-35. This thread dedicated to discussions related to the F-35 Program - General Discussion (covering all common platform issues, like the helmet system, program office news, GAO reports, and weapons integration).

If you are a new member, you might want to read a backgrounder called "Air Power 101 for New Members", before posting to stay out of trouble (think of this as a survival guide, to avoid being banned by the Mod Team).

Journalism used to be an attempt to provide a balanced story. Unfortunately, some of the current reporting on the JSF tries to sell you a point of view that supports a pre-determined meme and we get poor quality journalism that contains known falsehoods to advance the meme. Further, we welcome informed criticism of the JSF program but we do not condone the passing-off of known falsehoods to advance an anti-F-35 meme (see the post on Clipping the Wings of Misinformation, in Air Power 101).

Having said the above, join us in the discussions below.

Cheers
Ranger25 has ignored all pinned threads, plus mod directions in the F-35 threads. ADMk2 is merely pointing out the obvious to an oxygen thief.

Fair enough,
In my veiw I thought AD first reply was spot on, but the second was unwarranted.
No dramas, my intent wasn't to 'play the man' but rather his posting style which was aimed at nothing more than trolling and in clear breach of the rules we expect on the site, as outlined by OPSSG below.

I didn't take the 'spelling error' as a person who was trying and just couldn't spell. To me it screamed of someone who put so little thought into his post he didn't bother to construct his sentence properly and his only real thought was to stir up the proverbial...

I'll make sure I clarify that in future.

Troubled Logistics System Critical to F-35’s Future April 2015 Valerie Insinna

Troubled Logistics System Critical to F-35’s Future
I'd like a thorough review of our new aircraft. At this point I'd like to restart the F22 line with a "B" model and offer it to several key allies who wanted to original frame. We can use the foreign sales to assist in recapitalizing the line.

Additional negotiate with Boeing to upgrade legacy airframes to a 4++ model. Upgrade the F15 to F15SE 24 at a time as well as the FA18 to the FA18ASH.

Use these frames while we limp into a F35 IOC while developing a separate, purpose build, 6th gen Naval and Air Force Aircraft

Thoughts?

This is a reminder about the F-22A Raptor. At present, due to current US laws, the F-22 is unavailable for sale to any other country. Unless/until there is a change signed into law, any discussion of foreign orders for the Raptor will be deleted.

Official warning issued to Ranger25, for contiued attempts at thread derailment in multiple F-35 threads and ignoring all pinned warning threads (like the one issued by Preceptor above).

Stop reading anything by POGO or with David Axe's name on it, that should help.

The program is as far as I can tell, running fine, and the aircraft is doing okay. Let's put this in perspective and think back to the Hornet, which needed a wing redesign after testing. Or F14, which had lost a jet and two air crew inside the first half dozen flights. Or the F4 which had to abort it's first test flight with a fuel leak and fire.

Pricing wise, the internet still says claims the aircraft costs $250 million a copy, when in fact it's $100 million or so, the list goes on.

Plans exist - as slow as they might be - to allow 6 AMRAAMs to be carried internally, Bill Sweetman (I know) reported on it back in '07.

Assuming a 50% pk, when will a flight of 4xF-35s need to deal with more than 8 bandits?

That's also assuming that anybody left after the 8 are still brave enough to hang around after all his buddies go down without ever seeing who shot them down.

Keep in mind that if the threat that is in the area warrants more than 4xF-35s, they they will put up more than 4.

PaxRiver Ski Jump Exactly Replicates CVF Ski Jump

Old info on the internet usually says that the ski jump at Pax River is the same as the old Invincible Class (AFAIK that was demolished). The new ski jump there was built c.2008 with the USN website not updating info. Anyway long story short is here - ski jump replicates CVF:

The URL below does not work now but it makes clear the runup AM-2 matting and ski jump were installed on centrefield May 2009

Thoughts on the Weapons loadout of the F35 series?
Understanding this is mission based, but with a current max of 4 internal air to air, does it seem the F35s may run out of missiles before they run out of targets in a near peer conflict?
Its what the USAF wanted on it's F-16 replacement. Fairly certain it occurred to someone that, that situation may occur...

Hence why it can carry far more missiles if it needs to (and if future combat actually represents the internet's favourite idea of 'sheer missile numbers' at nn paces wins the day in every conceivable scenario...) and why there are a variety of plans to improve internal only warloads.

The amount of bitching on the internet about what the F-35 'won't' be able to do at e try to service is astonishing.

F-35A will be capable of employing AMRAAM, AIM-9X, internal cannon, JDAM, the Paveway series, SDB I and JSOW, as well as full laser, radar and optical targeting capability for air and ground targets, as well as a fully capable EW system ready for operations.

Love to see another program that can boast as much. Was anyone anywhere near as astonished at the lack of capabilities in comparison of the Typhoon, Rafale or Gripen at their entry to service?

Seems perfectly fine for them to evolve over the years, but the same just isn't allowed for the F-35 for reason?

I agree, I was simply a little underwhelmed at its air to air load out but it sounds as though we're working to increase the internal AMRAAM load up to 6 if needed. Will also be able to internal,y carry the LRASM when fielded

I'm not a critic of the system, but always working to be better informed. I'm impressed by its RCR and ECM power. Combined it will be hard to match
