The American Air Force and Navy would sink any invasion force on its voyage to American shores, and the American Air Force has the capability to bomb a rain of death upon any invasion army from either Canada or Mexico. If terrorists ever used a nuclear device upon any America cities, America would likely return the favor by eliminating the offending country once and for all, and America has the capability and the will power to do so. Ask the Germans and the Japanese how our Army Air Corps fire bombing campaign went during World War II.

I see what you mean, but if you read what i put in my post, than there wouldn't need to be an invasion untill after the coutry is breaking apart, and that would mean that the army would have to deal with 2 forces, one of them would be there own civilians taking part in the civil war and the other would be the invading force.

Who do you mean by "they" do you mean the terrorists or the invading country. If its the terrorists or the country either way they would only do so to get US to get out of their way, and to do that, they might have to spread terror by killing innocent Americans, and yes with out having to invade US.

I don't think your exaggerating at all. America, and Canada, are soft targets. About as soft as they come. Were I to attack America I would do it exactly as you outlined.

I think invading the US is pretty much (almost) impossible. It would need an awfull lot of manpower and equipement used in a perfectly coordinated way. Thus, such an invasion could only come from some other superpowers (I would take China).
Concepts:
1-The invasion could only work out if the US military and navy are tied down away from the homeland and their ressources are streched across different theatres.
2-The invasion would have to be preceded by well-coordinated first-strike using WMD. Such a strike should be done in a covert operation, like sneaking chimical weapon components in the US territory, stockpiling them until the attacker is ready to deploy them on every middle-to-large urban centers(such a massive covert operation, right under the nose of the US intelligence community...hehehe...). This should be done to inflict large amount of civilian casualties and create general havoc to limit defensive capabilities. The purpose of keeping it covert is to limit to nuclear retaliation from the US towrd the invading country.
3-The invasion itself...It shlud start with a direct nuclear strike on every major military bases inside and outside the US. Also, nuclear weapons should be used and every major fleets to incapacitate them. This strike must be done in a very limited amout of time, like a couple of hours or so...maybe using stealth bomber and SLBMs...or something...
4-After that, the main invasion should begin, using massive air-drops and troop landings. The objectives of these troops would be to engage any points of resistance, which would most be in rural areas, because urban centers would have be destroyed.

Estimates of such an apocalyptical scenario happening: 0.001% or so...

Just to make a bit of a correction, the 1066 invasion was the last in a long series of invasions. The British islands were first invaded by the (Continental) Celts, reinvaded by Celts from Ireland, invaded by the Angles and Saxones, invaded by the Romans, later the Danes, and Vikings, other Scandinavians, and finally Normans who were actually the Franks. Later attempts were made by the Spanish, the French again, and lastly the Germans who only got so far as planning stage. Finally the Pakistanis and Indians invaded UK with aid from the Carribians. The latest invasion was by the close to 100,000 Australians. Recently the Prime Minister of Australia was heard practicing his speach which goes " we will fight them on the cricket pitch, we will fight them on the football field, we will even challenge them in soccer World Cup..." nfloorl:
