There is no problem with horizon. - Wave length spectrum used in that kind of radars is in meter- semi- meter diapsone. In that diapasone there is a posibility to use earth- surface- ionosphere waveguide, so radiowaves propagates in atmosphere around earth surface. To simplify let's say waves reflects many times between earth and highly ionized atmosphere stratum. There are some problems with compenstion of ionosphere noise in case of very excited ionosphere (high solar activity (you could see Aurora Borealis that time) or nuclear explosion in high atmosphere in worse case). And actually that diapasone very good for "Stealth"- technology aircraft location indeed as body geometry of modern stealth crafts and coating do not affect much such a long wave interactions with aircraft- It optimised for common traking and homing radars of SAM's wich works in sani- meter diapasone. What about the horizon problem that stems from their land-based nature?
I expect to see more EW radars/interceptors (and other infrastructure) in Central Asia, Russian Arctic, and China. Classic "tit-for-tat"!Russia in its turn intends to develop military cooperation with members of the CSO to create the joint missile defense system.
