Let the left-leaning press say what it wants to. Let the professors who have preached about the evils of the US say whatever. I think this fact remains:Never in the history of mankind has one nation had so much military might yet did not use it to gain land.
If the PRC or PDRK or France or any of the Islamic nations had the military power the US has it would be annexing country after country. The US government does not do this.Yes there is great economic pressure put on poorer nations and yes there are some (very) left-wing people who claim that the US does "own" other nations but these are merely idedas not realities. The reality is that the US does not use its power to gain land.

A couple of remarks. I wouldn't mix China and France with N Korea ... unless you are referring to Napoleon-era France ;) and most leftwingers' fears focus on US economic interests encroaching on their countries, more than physical invasion to occupy land. Besides, our (European) experience of colonialism proved that (even leaving aside the moral side of it) economically it was disastrous for the occupying powers (think of what it cost for France to try to keep Algeria in the 1955-62 war for example).

The USA used to (Florida, much of the US west, Philippines, Puerto Rico, the Panama canal zone, various Pacific islands, Cuba turned into a protectorate, & temporarily Haiti & Nicaragua ruled as colonies). Gave it up, & let some territorities go, at about the same time as European countries started waking up to the idea that maybe colonial empires weren't really worthwhile.

And we're off-topic.

Ugandan troops have started moving into Somalia to train the Somali national army as part of the AU peacekeeping force. This is a good start however the international community needs to step up and fund these types of mission that will bring stability to Somalia.

So far the Ugandan bataillon is going to Baidoa, a relatively calm town north-east of Mogadishu. The AU will start being serious when they enter Mogadishu itself...
