Read This article, GP is for "Guardia Pesca" ? :D :D
Yes I had read it. Forcieri is now explaining that you need a FFGHM like FREMM to run traffic control in the Mediterranean Sea, guiding traffic (sea & air) to prevent accidents and terrorist attacks.

Next time our beloved Forcieri will be explaining that the Typhoon EFA is needed to guide migrating birds in their trajectory and that the Ariete MBT is needed to clear traffic jams :eek:nfloorl: :D :D

I'd vote for him to be President (even if I don't vote for his party) :D

FREMM seems to be quite different from French design (mast, radar...)
What about the main characteristics of the LPD (fourth? right?)
Thanks

76/62 SR con kit STRALES, Italian FREMM and future amphibius unit :D :D
SEI UN MITO Maxsona :D

The new LPD design (remember guys, hospital ship ;) ) looks like the 20,000 tonner 200 meter long design I had heard about in the past. We would have something the size of the British Ocean. Fingers crossed that it materializes ASAP.

cheers

The LPD (yes the 4th) is an extended version of a previous 12000 tonne design based on the existing San Giorgio/Marco/Giusto class of 8000 tonne LPDs.
It's impressive to see that it is a 20,000 tonner (written on the superstructure the engineer is holding in his hands) and that it can easily be fitted with a ski jump.
The one thing that I can't see is whether it is also a a LHD since I can't see aft. It is very likely anyway.

What you're wondering is whether it's an LPH or LHD. The D is for dock. An LPD & LHD both have docks. An LPH does not. Ocean has no dock & is an LPH. Albion is an LPD (dock, aft deck only). Mistral is usually called an LHD (through deck & dock), though the French call her a BPC (Bâtiment de Projection et de Commandement). They say TCD (transport de chaland de débarquement) for LPD, e.g. Foudre.

I've checked, apparently it does have a dock, so it would be a LHD.

That square bow looks like Mistral, even more so. And about the same size. But the big questions are 1) will she ever be built? & 2) what's all this ski-jump stuff? Is she seen as a back-up to Cavour when Garibaldi retires, like the Spanish BPE?

The ship will have a modular desing, 14000, 20000 or 25000 ton. the superstructure will be like the one in the hands of the man with incorporated hangar (4 heavy helos in 20000 ton version) or like the one installed with the hangar under the deck with more helos space but less marines capacity.

The LHD will be built shortly if, as requested to Parliament, the budget is taken from the Civilian Protection Agency (a sort of Italian copy of the US FEMA). In that case I think there will be no ski-jump and the ship could even be built without a continuous flight deck, to make sure no politician thinks it is a replacement of Garibaldi...

If the Civilian Protection Agency doesn't fund it, then it's pretty clear there's no space left in the Defence budget. In that case, expect building around 2010 earliest. The ship would then be like the Spanish BPE a hybrid LHD/STOVL carrier, with ski-jump and a below-deck hangar large enough to host a dozen EH101s or 9 F35Bs. It would in this case clearly replace Garibaldi around 2015-2016.

I doubt that ASW Vulcano will have "SACLOS" guidance like written in this thread , ASW Vulcano have "Over The Horizon" range, but SACLOS technology is not OVH. This article written infrared terminal guidance.
