Despite all the talk that the EMALS able it to operate J-35 (instead F-35B in US equivalent), seems more indication it will be for UAV/UCAV.

This PLAN carrier development shown that China seems still pursue that 6 Carrier target by early 2030+. 2 Stobar, 2 Conventional Catobar, and 2 Nuclear Catobar.

All so far following China progressing design for each type. Shandong is development of Liaoning. The Type 003A is development of Type 003 (Fujian). This shown potentially there will be Type 004A, once the CVN operational.

I see their method more learning by progresive designing, rather then set ulitamate design first. More faster in development, but still taking risk on patching up older design while learning.

China CCTV make episode on show casing Fujian EMALS. This is first time CCTV (at least from what I gather) make epidode specific discussing Fujian EMALS on board.

Off course as CCTV going to use this as propaganda to shown China EMALS prowness. Still this is also give outsiders China EMALS in operation.

Type 076 LHD, the bigger sister from its predecessor Type 075 LHD, shown leaving Pudong Shipyard. Photos being uploaded from various sources online. This is the LHD that being prepared with arester cable and EMALS. It's speculate to operate PLAN UCAV, and the photos shown a model of that UCAV.

It will be interesting to see how well the PLAN's EMALS system performs. The underlying technology is applicable to rail guns as well so this is a significant emerging threat. Haven't seen any information on the landing kit for the PLAN's carriers.

Minor point, but a 1500km trip along the coastline is hardly an operational deployment. More a proof of concept transit. I'll wait until I see the PLAN conduct back to back long term (4 - 6 months) blue water operations, sustained flight ops with a full complement carrier wing before marking their progress.

Agree on that, but have to see on angle of their increase preparation readiness. Liaoning and Shandong also not having operation from what I know more than two months in the sea. So far all their carrier still operating within what be call first island chains. All other long range 'blue water' operation that PLAN did so far more on Destroyer (or Cruiser if want to call Type 055) and escorts level.

Still it is developing, and so far PLAN operate on more gradual conservative pace. Seems what they are focusing now more on sea denial capabilities over first island chains, in case they have to invade Taiwan.

"In case they HAVE to invade Taiwan" sounds like how Russia "HAD to invade Ukraine". I mean they could choose NOT to invade just as Russia could.

Sounds like prepping the ground for blaming the West for just forcing China (as with Russia) to do something rather than accepting that they are making these decisions by themselves and for thselves.
