

Three types of TNI-AU Lead In Fighter Trainers in 50's and 60's. All Three being acquired in less then a decade. Represent the fast changes of geopolitics and technology on that era.
The first jet trainer was Dehaviland Vampire that being acquire in 55. This jet important as being the plane that trained TNI-AU on operating jet era. Changes on Indonesia geopolitic stance, and introduction of more numerous Mig 15 UTI, make all 8 Vampire being sold to India by 63. In fact the only Vampire on display at TNI-AU museum is ex RNZAF museum bartered for another TNI-AU museum collection.
Second one Mig 15 UTI not only being more numerous but also don't serve long enough as TNI-AU trainer. Sources in TNI-AU shown they are not satisfied with the operational performance, and soon looking for replacement.
Third one L29 Deflin was also first trainer that being procure with tropicalised version. TNI-AU quite satisfied and use it well in to Soeharto era before being replace by Hawk Mk53.
