Stop with the politics it’s so boring and not relevant. Let’s get back on topic.
I don’t agree. This is probably the most relevant thing for the RAN right now, except perhaps the three Chinese ships cruising by….

Politics have also been a topic to be avoided on DT. Talking politics, particularly speculative politics leads to poorer discussions and often personal attacks between members. Plus its a forum rule. It will be enforced. If you must talk politics, then discuss on other platforms such as reddit or facebook. However, almost all military forums worth their salt will prohibit such conversations for the same reasons.

Note to all. Can we please stop the politics and Trump talk.
This is a RAN thread.

Using the name Trump (or any other specific US president) is now prohibited. We just get side tracked instantly, and many personal/individual details get discussed. This is not Trump re-election/policy/fashion/crypto discussion thread. I understand the interest, but if we are talking about AUKUS, then refer to AUKUS and the US commitment and how it impacts the RANs capabilities. Try to avoid broad and wild speculation based on Politics.

I am hoping this kind of guard rails, brings us back on to more relevant and useful RAN topics.

Only refer using the terms POTUS/Congress and as minimally as possible and in specific context to the RAN. I have pinged a few a single point for perhaps multiple infractions, in the hope we can all move along. Further infractions will now accumulate more points if people can't move back to the relevant topics.

Does anybody seriously think that an entirely peaceful and legal cruise by a small number of warships, wherever they might go or what the motivation for them going there might be, is a reason to start World War 3? Trail them yes; interfere with them - no!

And a no notice weapons practice in international waters might be bad manners, but it is not a reason for any aggressive action against the ships involved. It involved inconvenience (undoubtedly the aim) but no actual harm. Diplomatic protest is what is appropriate in that situation.
The carry on is doing my head in.

We do freedom of navigation in the SCS and china behaves in an irresponsible and unprofessional manner. This is our opportunity to practice what we preach, to behave how we say they should behave.

It would be nice however, if we had the fleet planned in the early 90s. Nine FFG/DDG, eight Anzacs / their replacements and a dozen missile corvettes. Oh yes and NZs four Anzacs.

They would be able to tag team nicely and follow the PLAN anywhere they chose to go.

Interestingly I was looking at old Navy magazines last night and saw a photo of the Australianised Type 124 FFG with SPY-1F. Nice as the Hobart's are, and cool as three Burke's would have been, just imagine nine Type 124s.

Lots of direct recruiting nuclear trades popping up on the ADF recruiting site.

RAN must be mirroring USN trades for the Virginia's.

The Type 124 is quite a nice design. 5000t, 140m long, 230 crew, 32 vls, 2 ram launches, 2 helos... Bow sonar... I wish that there was a modern order for such a ship. highlights the opportunity cost.

Interesting again tho, that Germany planned 4, built 3, now probably regrets not building 4 or more.

There range as built isn't up to RAN needs but being similar DNA to the MEKOs that undoubtedly could have been fixed.

The big thing though would have been the continuous build. I think it's likely Williamstown still would have closed but maybe there would have been a phased transition to Adelaide over batches.

All moot now but that "minimum" planned fleet, backed by continuous shipbuilding, turned out to be bang on the money.

Would of liked to see 2 helos on the SEA 3000 offerings.

On basic stats the Type 124 looked a good unit.

Thanks Stingray. This was getting messy and completely off topic. Politics and religion are the quickest way to end friendships. As we all have an interest in the RAN they should be completely out of bounds.

Apologies Mods, I had understood that discussion of politics was permitted to the extent that it was directly relevant to procurement decisions of the RAN. Thanks for clarifying.
