No idea how far it can fly , from the article it appears it can manage three or four times around the airfield at very high speed
TBH I thought that too. I wonder if it has to do with individual runways? I know that ice quality can vary spatially and that if a runway is on an ice shelf it can depend on the stability of the shelf, the underlying water conditions and the mean annual temperature of the water at the foot of the shelf. The foot of an ice shelf is where it touches the sea floor. For example the Pine Island shelf is melting at the foot because of a change in water currents with a deep depth warm water current being the cause of the melting. Eventually this melting will cause the shelf to break off and go walkabout.I thought operating large commercial aircraft from the ice runways down south was an issue, this one appears to have had no problems. The article suggests the only problem was the pilot at first struggled to correctly identify the runway due to glare.

I am not familiar with the ice conditions of Phoenix Field so I cannot comment specifically upon it. I can only go on what @MrConservative has posted.

I wonder if Boeing will want to have an operator duplicate this flight with a 747?I thought operating large commercial aircraft from the ice runways down south was an issue, this one appears to have had no problems. The article suggests the only problem was the pilot at first struggled to correctly identify the runway due to glare.

More problems for the S-92 based presidential helicopter replacement, the second attempt running into trouble. Seems to be auxiliary kit as opposed to the helicopter itself (other than burning the Whitehouse lawn).

Like KC-X these issues though are just as likely to have happened if not more so with the VH71 that originally won. The issues being with the communications equipment which is brand new. wiring and software. Then a minor problem with the air stairs (The leader of the free world doesn’t board an aircraft by ladder). Followed by the insistence of using the lawn as a helicopter pad.

I guess the CH-148 version with the back ramp would not provide for good photo ops.

Since the President of the US hasn’t been wheelchair bound since FDR (Though JFK should have been) no. Besides the ramp space maybe inaccessible internally on Marine one. It’s not just photo ops but due to both the luxury and security.I guess the CH-148 version with the back ramp would not provide for good photo ops.
If you were to board Marine one you would find yourself in appointments not far removed from a business jet or Limousine interior. With seating for guests and entourage. As part of that the interior appointment are built to be as quiet as possible and more importantly pressurized with a CRBN system this is so the chopper can operate at its maximum capacity of altitude, range and protecting from chemical attack. That protection is standard on all US presidential movers as well as most head of state transportation. This means not making a Marine corporal have to ask the POTUS to wear a oxygen mask.
Both of these mean that the rear cargo ramp is capped off internally from the passenger cabin by a bulkhead that will sport a TV. (Edit: in two of Sikorsky’s interior configurations for S92 executive choppers the interior cap is a solid wall, in one it has a door leading to the cargo hold. The ramp and some of the space behind this bulkhead will be used as a luggage compartment. Ch148 is a Utility chopper lacking any creature comforts.

Well I booked a flight last week with WestJet on a 737Max, then I just read this link below. My return trip is on a Dreamliner…assuming the Abbotsford to Calgary leg on a Max is successful….oh, and the Abbotsford airport isn’t underwater.

The US now also plan to offer the Cessna 408 Skycourier to foreign military customers.
The first flight of the first prototype was just in may 2020, and Cessna has the plan to intodruce it on the worldmarket in mid 2022. The IPTN N219 had its first flight in august 2017, and until today there are no signs that serial production will start soon.

Though, the M28 can get off the ground in about half the distance that the Skycourier needs. The Cessna does have about a 20% better cargo capacity when all the seats are removed. And it does have a large cargo door. If I remember correctly Cessna designed them specifically to meet the needs of FedEx here in the states, as a replacement for the Cessna 208s

Yes, the AC-208 Combat Caravan. And also a competitor in the USSOCOM Armed Overwatch aircraft procurement as the MC-208 Guardian (along with the PLZ M28)
