Ingenuity UAV helicopter is the most interesting thing for me from this overall Perseverance program. I always want to know how in practice the Earth origin UAV flight behavior in Mars less dense atmosphere environment.

If this prove successful, then it will be really game changer on Mars planetary mission in future. UAV helicopter can easily go to places that hindering Land based Rover. They can be equipped with sensors that reading mineral material below surface, just like some UAV being used by mining companies now.

More importantly it can cover much more area, that usually can only be observe from orbital satellite. This's just flying drones being use in Star Wars, Star Trek and other science fiction movies for deep recon :)

Anyway, the Marsrover Perseverance just made his first meters. It is actually still a part of testing the onboard systems and components, but it is the first step for some serious Mars-exploration.

Earth has a magnetic shield, or magnetosphere, that helps prevent the atmosphere from escaping. But Mars' magnetic shield is weak and could have allowed elemental components of water to escape from the planet.

But the rate at which hydrogen - one chemical constituent of water - escapes from that atmosphere today suggests this can't be the whole story.

So, scientists now think they have an answer: much of it became trapped in the planet's outer layer - its crust.
The study used measurements gathered from Mars-orbiting spacecraft, rovers and meteorites. Researchers then developed a computer simulation of how water was lost from the planet over time.

So it is still a theory, but it is based on data collected over the years.

Well there's a considerable amount of water within the Earth's crust of which some makes it way into the asthenosphere. There it is mixed in with the magma and if part of magma chamber can make things interesting as the magma reaches the surface.

On Mars we know that water flowed on the surface because evidence of the flow patterns still exist in the surface geomorphology. I attended a couple of talks by a NASA planetary geomorphologist who discovered the evidence of the Martian surface water flows. The evidence was accumulated via remote sensing from Mars orbiting space missions. Therefore it is logical to assume that based on the facts that:
  • Both Earth and Mars are rocky planets.
  • Both had or have water flowing across the surface.
  • Water has percolated through to the asthenosphere on the Earth and a significant amount of water is stored within the crust between the asthenosphere and the surface.
  • Since that is the case on the Earth, and properties of rocks and rock matrix should be similar on Mars to that on Earth, given that,
  • The differences being lower gravity, significantly lower O2 in the atmosphere, significantly lower atmospheric pressure, very low magnetosphere.
  • It is reasonable to assume the possibility exists that water is still extant within the Martian crust.

For NASA and many scientist, the Mars magnetic shield is the key for terraforming Mars. All the idea on releasing waters or creating green gas to Mars Atmosphere to flood the Mars, will not matter if Mars magnetic field is not strong enough to hold thicker atmosphere.

This's one of the articles that circulate on the questions of increasing Mars Magnetic field. There's also talk on drilling to Mars core and detonate Mars core with large H Bomb as way to "jump" Mars internal Dynamo. Just like in the science fiction movie "The Core".

All of this shown that Terraforming Mars will not be as easily as Ellon Musk talk. Building colony in Mars will only be temporary, as the condition of Mars can't be changed until Mars own magnetic field can be increase to hold much thicker thus livable atmosphere.

In early April, the Mars Ingenuity helicopter will attempt the first-ever powered flight on Mars. NASA plan to do this not earlier than 8 April 2021.

The debris shield, a protective covering on the bottom of NASA’s Perseverance rover, was released on 21-03-21. The debris shield protects the agency’s Ingenuity helicopter during landing; releasing it allows the helicopter to rotate down out of the rover’s belly.

And now it is in the position ready to be released on the Mars soil.

Seems science community already see for sometime that to shield space radiation effect for space ships epecialy for long journey, you need to build artificial gravity that kind replicate magnetosphere just like in the earth atmosphere.

However reading article like this, seems suggest alternative propulsion drive needed to provide enough energy to maintain and build that through out the Journey. Seems the traditional conventional chemical propulsion will not be enough. Perhaps why now space agencies more thinking on providing shielding materials to the space craft. Considering they still thinking to rely on Chemical Propulsion.

Nasa shown video of rainbow like phenomena from Perseverance Rover. Nasa team seems confince it's due to light trick on Rover camera. Still some speculate whether actualy there's enough water molecules in Mars Atmosphere to create Rainbow phenomena.

Whatever it is, the picture will raise more question on Mars real environment. Human still only take a glimpse on Mars.

The real reason and also the most logic explanation is already written in this article and in other articles.
Its just a lens flare. The atmosphere is too cold and thin to support large quantities of water droplets or snow in the air. If it was really a rainbow, NASA will be the first to announce this.

Just to add shorten video of the flight only from JPL sites. It's only for 48 seconds but it's after all the first controlleable flight on another planet. Prove the concept of man made robot controlling (even with Earth base command) the drone flight, on extra teresterial plane.

Perhaps this's why UFO sighting increasing ? Even USN shown the video on that.

The rotor speed was approximately 5x what would have been needed to lift the same weight here on earth due to the low air pressure/density. They plan on using larger aircraft in the future to move scientific packages around but they will have to have correspondingly fast rotor speeds or larger rotors to compensate for the difference in density.

The great achievement has been made for the Perseverance mission and for whole space exploration area. Excellent work by NASA's scientists and engineers. I guess that this flight will help humans in futher Mars exploration and of course it will help in making the first crewed mission to the red planet
