I would love to see a 4th AWD or/and a 3rd LHD, but in reality we dont need to build either to have continuous work at Adelaide. All that is required is to bring forward the submarine project. We are going to have an increase in numbers, so why cant our submarine fleet grow prior to the end of Collins? If the third new submarine were to replace the decommissioning Collins, we would have a fleet of 8 subs until the final Collins was gone.

Too much like a good idea to have any chance of happening.
Collins will probably follow the example of so many other "replacement" defence projects, and either limp along or more likely cease to exist for a time until the new one - note -one takes up the capability again. To be followed at agonisingly snail like speed by 'some" others. We want 12, we plan for 8, we get 5 ---- you know how it works.
Here are some programs that follow the trend:

MRTT ..... existing aircraft gone - and being operated by someone else - still waiting for the replacements
Caribou - so long gone that a new generation of Australians doesn't even know what they were - still waiting for their replacements
Landing platform amphibious ships - what a mess
Fleet replenishment ships - ditto
etc etc
A real tale of woe...................

I thought she was going over the top of Aus? Something to do with not risking the southern seas etc? Either way not long to go now! Woohoo
The Great Australian Bight (37degs South average) is beginning to behave itself by this time of year.

If they travelled the great circle route from Capetown to Melbourne they would be down on the ice, or more likely, down to 50degs South at the max.
Not a pleasant place to be in August. They went north to 20degs instead!

The Blue Marlin would have to stay at least in the IWL (Institute Warranty Limits) or INL as its now known and they would stay in the summer zones and that is a rhome line about half way down Tasmania.

Just wondering if someone could confirm, deny or otherwise point me to a reference that the Canberra Class will not have the RAS facilities as the JCI does, I do remember some talk about it in the past that they will not have them ? IE: they will not be able to refuel ships in company, only receive fuel from tanker/oiler. ? I have not been able to find any info on this at all, link to fotosdebarcom attached showing the RAS rig on the JCI

Is it just me but their seems to be a lot of write ups in the Navy News of late about HMAS Success, from speculation that she won’t be back to how good the ships is now, is someone trying to prove a point?

Its a PR blitz, trying to put a positive spin in any way on the fact that shes f**ked beyond belief, and trying to give excuses so when they dont sail on schedule( a weekly event) then its down to her age, but she can still do it.
Im holding onto a bet that she will be announced by end of the year to decommissioning, and every time she fails to get off the wharf is a day closer to winning.

Even if she wasn't completely "donald ducked" - I doubt that there are discretionary funds available to pay for tours

SRP Mk99 etc...

She was meant to be in Adelaide for Navy week but didn't show, official story is operational deployment.......Paramatta is there instead.

Blue Marlin has popped up again on Marine Traffic, she is now of the WA coast near Perth :)
Not the most fastest boat in the world is she? The Blue Marlin is now just gone past Esperance, WA: Live Ships Map - AIS - Vessel Traffic and Positions

Before I get flamed here, I know it's a engineering marvel that she managed to carry one of the Navy's biggest hull onboard, let alone to be able to move at any speed at all!

If I've known about this, I would have pop down to the beach in Perth and try to take a picture of her.

That position is nearly three days old. She is likely over 500 nautical miles east of there if my maths is right.
She is doing over 8kn and may have to contend with currents as well. It has been a careful trip to protect the projecting Canberra bow that hangs over Blue Marlin's stern by a reported 55m. Patience is still a virtue ............

I went through Parramata yesterday, she is looking bright and shiny at the moment, and it definitely wasn't Success...
She always looked that way, i hope she got a good paint job done last maintanence, inside we had her immaculate but was never able to get her into dock for full outside clean and paint.
I served on her for MEAO in 2010 and she did us well over there, and from what im hearing shes in best condition of all the Anzacs which has always been the way we liked her.
