Question on Missile Approach Warning Systems

Do fighters such as the Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen and Super Hornets come with Missile Approach Warning Systems fitted as a standard fit or do these have to be ordered seperately by customers? And what about F-16s, F-15s and F-18s of the USAF and the USN, have they been fitted with Missile Approach Warning Systems as part of upgrades conducted?

I will assume you mean IR based MAWS as anything in the EW band will be covered by the ESM.

IIRC Rafale & EF, yes.. the rest, no.

The US is using CMWS (Common Missile Warning System) pronounced C-Moss which is a stand alone system on most everything from helicopters to fighters and everything inbetween.

I was under the impression that all MAWS were intended to provide warning against IR missiles, whether air or ground launched and that warning against radar guided missiles were provided by the RWR.

1. If an aircraft which is not fitted with a MAWS is fired upon by a MANPADS and the pilot does not visually spot the launch, what other systems are there on the aircraft to provide him with warning that he has been fired upon?

2. Would it be accurate to say that the majority of fighters operated by most air arms are still not equipped with systems that provide warning and protection against laser guided MANPADs like RBS-70, Straburst and Starstreak?
