Back in 2008 Lockheed-Martin displayed computer-generated video and photos of a static model of a proposed "morphing" UAV. DARPA has also shown artists' renderings of wing-morphing UAVs.
The concept has many aspects, but seems generally based on a desire to provide a single UAV that can loiter for long periods of time at high altitudes for intellgience sensor purposes, but then fold its wings into a tight polyhedral shape for a stealthier fast-sprint to an identified target, launching a missile or dropping a glide-bomb and then evacuating the area as quickly as possible.
That was four years ago. Has anyone more current information on these efforts?
