This is a starter post on Russian aircraft developments past, present, future.

The Russians have always fascinated me with some of their developments, esp in the 50's and 60's where they had the absolute backing of the govt and did some really innovative designs.

One of my favourites in contemp designs is the "heavy" version of the Mig 29

In no particular order

Heavy Mig 29
La 250
Mig 21 Starfighter (same wing and planform as the F-104 Starfighter)
Tu138 (you'd think that Rafale and the J20 took some design cues from this)
Yak MFI (did the J20 took some design cues from this?)
Mig 701
Mig Ye8, canard development, not the earlier model.(did the chinese J-10 take some design cues from this?)

By heavy MiG-29 do you mean the MiG-29M? Otherwise I'm confused.
there were 2 x heavy proposals of the early Mig 29

one was a single fin, the other the twin tail.

the twin tail version featured twin fins and twin tails on short booms (around 1972)

the cockpit roof was flush with the dorsal spine

Do you have any more detailed info on it? Was it in direct competition with Sukhoi's TFI bid?

Soviet Secret Projects. Fighters Since 1945
Tony Butler and Yefim Gordon
P. 137 - 138 Includes mockups

Part of their initial submission for the PFI bid
single fin 1971
twin fin 1972

they didn't resemble the final product - at all.. very Mig25, R5 Vigilante in appearance. The original submission looks very similar to an F1 Mirage
