^maybe not if its unnamed? One goes up, one comes down to refuel. I'm guessing for example, that there is probably always a global hawk flying somewhere in the world 24/7.

Looking at the text of the article, I'm not sure he was making a comparison between the two platforms, but rather comparing where they fit in their respective air forces. He does mention an eventual transition to the PAK-FA that I don't think would be relevant if a platform comparison was his objective.

I do think it would be overly optimistic to expect the same performance out of the MiG than the F-35, but on the other hand I have a bit of a soft spot for the Fulcrum so I hope they can get some use out of the platform. :)

It certainly represents a huge leap over almost anything they have flying right now.

Russian MiG-31 Foxhound Crash in Ural Mountains Kills Both Pilots

A Russian fighter jet crashed in the central region of the country, killing both pilots on board, officials said on Tuesday.

The Mikoyan MiG-31 Foxhound fighter jet belonging to the Russian Air Force was on a routine training flight when it exploded in mid air, only minutes after taking off, a spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti.

Yeah, China picked up another 150 engines. I think they have issues with the WS-10.

Perhaps.
But what is it?
The WS-10, WS-10A or the WS-10B:confused:

Or is it the long awaited WS-15, that has delays?
How about it, the WS-15 could be installed on the J-10s.. right?

On top of that, the AL-31FN look to be slightly tuned up. it has now 12.700kgf.
Further more, it comes with an FN-M1 variant too!

Makes me wonder what kind of variant the latest AL-31FN batch was..

That depends on whether it was a new contract, or deliveries on a previously signed one. Your article cites 150 AL-31F, and 120 AL-31FN in two separate contracts.

Perhaps this clarify matters.

ÔÃÓÏ «ÍÏÖ ãàçîòóðáîñòðîåíèÿ «ÑÀËÞÒ» | Íîâîñòè | ÏÓÁËÈÊÀÖÈÈ | Ìàñàëîâ Â.Å. ðàññêàçàë êîððåñïîíäåíòó "ÀâèàÏîðòà" î òîì, êàê îí âèäèò ñâîþ ìèññèþ, êàêèå ïðîåêòû ïîëó÷àò ïðèîðèòåò, è êàê áóäåò âûñòðàèâàòüñÿ âçàèìîäåéñòâèå ñ ÎÄÊ.

MMBPP SALUT has this:
Google translate, but you get the point.

- Today, the foundation's financial health, "Salute" - the supply of engines of the AL-31F. However, difficult to build a balanced monoprodukte economy, especially in the medium and long term. The second product, whose prospects are well seen - AI-222. But the rest of the program "Salute" until a pre-defined questions. But as you know, a stool for sustainability must be at least three feet. What, in your opinion, should the company to look confidently into the future?

- Indeed, the AL-31F - motor, high demand currently. And we have confidence that in the medium term, production volume will be reduced.
On the contrary, there is some growth. If you take the statistics and plans for delivery in 2009-2012, the annual increase will be at 15-20% per year. Basically, he will remain at the expense of exports to China upgraded AL-31FN engine for the J-10 fighter. A month ago, Rosoboronexport signed a contract with China for more than 120 engines, the supply of 13 engines in 2011 and the completion of deliveries in 2013. In addition, held in June in Beijing meeting of the intergovernmental commission the Chinese side expressed its interest in the supply of upgraded AL-31FN engines with increased thrust - to 137 engines. So for the period 2014-2015 to the year, based on existing and future orders, which we see can be formed quite tense production program. Of course, if we talk about the period before 2020, the AL-31F will gradually descend from the market, the volumes will be reduced.

What could be the basis of a production line "Salute" in the future? Indeed, AI-222 is important to us direction. The Yak-130, which is installed on the engine, is included in the state program of armaments, it is, and export orders. The second aircraft, engines for which we do in cooperation with Ukrainian engine builders, that the AN-70 D-27. Until 2020, the program involves about 320 production engines. Of course, there are complex issues related to intellectual property rights in the joint Russian-Ukrainian engines, but we are in these matters are only beginning to understand. I think the solution is found.

- If you go back to the AL-31, it is obvious that the constant upgrading of the engine, including a version of M1 with an increase in the tractive effort and resource, opened the possibility for continuation of supply. For M1 were to follow modifications of the M-2 and M-3. Do you plan to work in this direction by its own KB? Will I lose a capable CB at all?

- "Salute" remains fully functional and usable size. It works good enough, at least, on aviation subjects, and work on the AL-31F-M2 are carried out. For him there is no external source of funding, but, nevertheless, we reached agreement with the designers, defining a budget for the current year to bring the work on the motor M2 to its logical conclusion.

So it's 6 EO sensors, 1 KS-V in front, 1 KS-O behind the cockpit, two KS-U on the sides in the font of the fuselage, with 2 more sensors locations and designations unknown.

And we're looking at 5 radars. One large X-band AESA, two side X-band, and two L-band.

Do you have the rest of that article? It seems to cut off right as it's about to go into a detailed look at the KAB-250.

I`ve got a question concerning the future of the Su 24. As I heard, the air force
is planning to reequip five of its bomber regiments with the Su 34 over the next nine years. What is going to happen with the remainig Fencers? Only 120 Su 34 are going to be delivered in that period of time, but many of the VVSs Su 24s and Tu 22Ms will have to be replaced earlier. So will there be further upgrades or will these aircraft simply be phased out without a direct replacement?

Iirc 48 Su-24M have been upgraded to M2. Those can expect to remain in service for a while to come. I'm not sure if the M2 program is continuing. I know some AVMF Su-24M and MR are being replaced with Su-30SMs.

The Tu-22M3s will remain in service without a replacement for a while. Probably through overhauls, and modernization.

Will the Su 24 which are being used as ECR-aircraft also be upgraded? Some time ago I read that Sukhoi was developing an ECR-version of the Su 34, but afaik the Su 30 M could also carry out such missions.
