As you all know the situation in Pakistan is heading south rapidly.
What are the U.S. options In the region If the U.S. is faced
With a radical regime via coup or military incident?
Is there enough tac air in the region to defend bases in the stan?
Are we screwed if denied supply via Pakistan?
Do you see a possible senario in which the U.S.
Tries to eliminate Pakistans nuclear capability? Or is the car out of the bag?
And lastly would China defend Pak as a cloent state

It will be very hard to eliminate or seize Pakistan's nuclear arsenal as these are dispersed in various locations and are hidden in tunnels.

Pakistan's main role for China has also been that of a buffer against India. Any incident involving Pakistan would be of great concern to China as Pakistan is a strategic ally and in China's backyard.

Firstly, why would Pakistan try to attack bases in Afghanistan, the chances of an all out war between Pakistan and the US is still slim and if there is one, Pakistan will play defensive, I doubt PAF has the capability to attack US bases deep inside Afghanistan while trying to defend its own air space against American attack.

Secondly about destroying Pakistans nuclear capability, do you think that Pakistan keeps its nukes nicely tucked up in a large shelf in one absolutely undefended or lightly defended shelter? Pakistan has had nukes for a while now and are perfectly capable of protecting them and keeping them out of enemy reach, the Pakistan military is not as pathetic and incompetent a force like their civil govt, the military is extremely professional and know how to get the job done, do not take them lightly.\

As for China, Pakistan is to China what Israel is to the US a powerful ally, in a very volatile region. Pakistan is China's closest ally and the relation between the two countries are time and weather tested, China will not sit by idly if Pakistan goes into an all out war with the West.

especially when an adventure like that would jeopardize any mineral rights that China could secure.

a cynical part of me reasons that the reasons why the Pakistanis haven't come down as hard on radical elements in their northern boarder is for a number of reasons:

1. they don't want a massive backlash of populist Islamic anger (which they are currently trying to manage elements right now)
2. they want to keep being a priority for U.S. aid.

I am sure old timers in pakistan reminiscend about Allah-Army-Amreeka trinity where any two can be invoked to get the third out of trouble, unlike today where fundamentalists, army and america are at loggerheads with each other.

Well for starters, US can start with a naval blockade at Karachi and Gwadar, to tell the regime that they are serious. Raptors taking off from Bahrain can snap cute little pictures of Pakistani "eff-solah"s from their gun camera and "leak" them to public making the regime to come out in denial with jingoistic statements like "we will make them chew steel" and cry foul about the "Hindu-Jew" conspiracy to defile relations with an old friend. Of course some pakistani general will make some off the record remark to some jingoistic journo that they will nuke Tel Aviv and New Delhi if amreeka attacks. Meanwhile US can land the cargo in India and move a massive convoy upto lahore amritsar border with a bunch of sf guys. Send in some growlers to black out some of the less modern IADS radars of Pakistan, use up every analyst from NATO and West Pac allies to scan up as many nukes as possible. Tell the new regime that "we are going to take them away", show them the satellite pics of a couple of very obvious locations and get them to start talking. Negotiate a face saving solution where the regime would have "outwitted amreeka" and allow the convoys to pass from Amritsar to Kabul on the ancient grand trunk road, escorted with reapers, covering least distance in Pakistan and negotiating for more "eff-solahs"

India will cry foul over sale of f-16's and will be silenced with something on the lines of civil nuclear deal, probably a red button membership to the BMD shield. China will launch a couple of major defense and civilian cooperations with pakistan. A bunch of redneck senators will keep on talking about invasion and liberation and democrats will hail Obama's leadership in avoiding a war.

Recent news report suggest that the Pakistani PM was in Kabul trying to convince the government to ditch Uncle Sam and let China take over that role of peace keeping .... that might undermine US efforts and role in the region....

I think Americans would be overjoyed if China wanted a piece of the Taliban.
