i dont know how old we have to be to join the navy so can somebody tell me please
Go here: Navy | Defence Jobs

Under the "general requirements" section of any position they will tell you the age requirements. This text appears across all ADF jobs, as far as I know (people in here who know better, please correct me if I'm wrong):

Applicants will not be allowed to enter the ADF until they achieve a minimum of 17 years of age, however they may be able to initiate the application process from 16 years and six months of age, depending upon the capacity of their local recruiting centre.

You can find all of this information on the defencejobs site. Incidentally you might want to consider doing more research yourself for questions like this, as you'll get more accurate and timely information from websites such as the above, and because Defence Talk is intended to be for discussion of military matters, rather than a question-answer service.

Cheers mate, and good luck with your Navy plans. :)

You're still looking at the Russian Navy, or has that changed since I last read your posts?

ohh fine i will try for the RAN
No I was curious.
Most of the Russian ships can't produce their own water so they have very strict water hours, when they pull into port only a small percentage of the enlisted are allowed off the boat and a host of other issues.

what do you mean water hours
Most modern ships have the ability to distill their own fresh water from sea water using reverse osmosis or other methods. Older ships (usually pre-1970's) and most Russian warships don't have this ability, they must either fill water tanks before they leave port or fill up on water when they UNREP (refuel at sea). That means unless you are an officer, food service or medical personnel you don't get to shower very often and when you do get to shower it is very short. Also depending on the navy it may mean rationing of drinking water as well.

Can I ask you something? You seemed dead set on the VMF, but when someone questioned you, you respond with "fine then, I'll try for the RAN".

How serious are you about this whole thing? I'm not saying that to be rude or poke fun, if you go serve in the Navy (any navy) you're a tougher person than I, but how much thought have you given this?

Do you really want to spend enormous amounts of time and effort getting fluent in Russian and obtaining a citizenship just so you can move to the other side of the planet and have a chance at joining the VMF? It's a bloody long way to go to find out whether or not the Navy life is for you...

im sure the RAN is gonna love the fact they're your second choice...

why is the russian navy so good anyway? (no offence to russian members) but alot of their ships are old. from what i understand working conditions are horrible (i believe alot of ships lack air con) not to mention the water issues
