Just out of curiosity, why not the RAN?

dont know never really wanted to be in the RAN just never seemed to click when i thought of myself in the australian navy
So what "clicks" about the thought of being in the Russian Navy? Nothing wrong with it, I'm just curious. I imagine it would be easier for you to join the RAN, you wouldn't have to move to a different country, you wouldn't need to learn another language (unless you already speak Russian) and with all due respect to our Russian members, I'm fairly certain you'd have better working conditions and pay in the RAN.

That said, I'm not one to judge you on your motivations or what have you. I'm not sure how you'd go about joining the Russian Navy if that's what you wanted to do, maybe one of the Navy fellows who post around here will be able to help you.

Perhaps you want to serve on nuclear powered SSN's and SSBN's that aren't operated by the RAN ;) ? Seriously, unless you have any close family connections with Russia or intend on becoming a citizen, I would imagine your chances of joining the Russian military to be nil... whether or not you already speak Russian. You have to bear in mind that working conditions and pay in the Russian military has improved and I dont think they are having problems attracting recruits. I would guess that the only non-Russian citizens they might accept would be those from a former USSR republic like Armenia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, etc.

I believe it's possible, but your best chance is to get in country, and contact a military commissariat and ask about contract service. This is the official MoD website for contract service Ãëàâíàÿ ñòðàíèöà

However it's only available in Russian. If you don't speak Russian fluently you have no chance of getting in. If you do, your best bet is to fly in country on soem sort of semi-permanent visa, contact a military commissariat and inquire about Navy service. Typically they can make some sort of citizenship arrangement as part of your military service, but once again I'm unclear on the details.

These are the VMF (Navy) job listings by category: Äîëæíîñòè Âîåííî-ìîðñêîãî ôëîòà

Threads merged. No you can't get into the VMF at 15. I believe there is some sort of initial Naval miltiary education available under the age of 18, but it would be similar to a military boarding school.
