Novel Ideas

I am currently writing a novel set around 2020, it is an alternate history novel where the Soviet Union did not collapse and a conventional war breaks out around 2020. One of the things I am trying to do with the novel is incorporate real weapons systems that were canceled after the end of the cold war. If anyone knows of systems like these or has a reasonable idea for a weapons system then please post.

Real Canceled Weapons Examples: Star Wars, A-12, Soviet Super Carriers

Reasonable Weapons Idea Examples: Modified SSBNS for carrying troops, AWACs combined with air-borne lasers to counter stealth

I am looking forward to your replies: If I use your idea and get a publisher than I will include you in the acknowledgements;)

Ground Effect Vehicles. Look at the Soviet Lun, and Caspian Sea Monster, for inspiration. The Object 640, and Object 188 are other good examples. Advances in reactive armor, and guided missile systems.

Hmm, this sounds kind of cool. I would be particularly interested in how you develop the Soviet Super Carrier. That would be an interesting fictional idea.

You've got a lot of the right systems down. The only suggestions I can make is to upgrade the infantry armor.

I'm also currently messing around with a novel. Good luck!

If the soviets would want a super carrier they need to work on there logistical support and many other things carrier fleets demand you have.

Many people think building a carrier is the hard part and then its simple. NO. They you have to run a city with a heck ofa appetite.

Well there is definitely potential for a novel to explore motives for the voyages of U-862 and U-196 to New Zealand late in 1944 -early 1945.

German U-boats were shipping Uranium oxides and other high tech weaponry systems to Penang, Singapore and Djakarta during 1944. Japan was paying for these with gold.

A dive museum curator in the north of New Zealand claims to have found U-196's wreck in approximately 40 feet of water, on the Kaipara coast. He3 also claims relatives of the shipwrecked U-boat approached him with a story of landing gold bullion.

To be frank the story of these self claimed survivors does not stack up and the museum curastor will not disclose the alleged wreck site because he honestly believes there is still gold inside the wreck.
