Global security

Hello everyone,
Iam not sure if this is the right section to post this, if not move it please.

Anyway nowaday's armies around the world get mutch more smaller look at EU armies in general for example. The mighty tank battalions and air squadrons are nearly gone have made room for high tech specialistic multi role systems supported by 75% less personel then during coldwar standards. Economic hardtimes add another reduction to the overall numbers of the current armies around the world.
As we all know we got several hotspots around the world where western nations try to root oud "security" dangers like for example the taliban. Currently we also see that some nations are spread thin or operating near the capacity of their bugets and overall capabilities to meet the danger of terrorists and other global dangers. We all fear to some degree that global security might be not as secure as we would be because there are still countries who harbor rogue groups and some even fund them with weapons, money and so on.
Both the US and NATO/EU working hard to face any problem that stands in the way of a global stability and security while the economy is struggeling to keep up with all the negative events that happen the past 10 years because lets face it the past 10 years where not the "role model" of peace and stability this all takes it toll on the long run and we now see the results of that.
Anyway while many nations around the world are trying to maintain our way of life we all can agree on the fact that despite all the hard work and effort the world is getting mutch more hostile by the day.
This brings me to my question, what could the western world do in general (i mean realistic actions) to keep the stability and security from falling. Because most nations do have to cut their bugets on defence in such a degree that some nations will lose more army and security related assets, i mean look at the past 5 years army numbers around the world dropping rapidly.
By decreasing army numbers and cutting costs you will start to lose grip and power to maintain our global security specially if the bigger nations do not extent their efforts to maintain it (Afganistan for example) What would happen if a rogue nation or etnic/radical or insane leader/ group would get his hands on a dirty bomb? what can europa and us do to prevent this? and what is already being done? because global security is a hot issue and the news is filled with taliban here , iran there and to finish they tell you about how bad the economy is :D
Because for example there are TV stations around the world who make good tv and some of them are testing public hotspots like airports, navalbases, armybases and goverment building to see how good the defence and security works.
And to be frank? i was shocked to see that you could carry a bomb into a plane without being detected imagine that the person would have a dirty chemical bomb or whatever explosive.
The horror from that is un inmaginable.
So public tests proof that the global security is not as secure as it use to be.
Then iam thinking how real is the danger that a group like taliban gets dirty weapons or chemicals? or imagine hezzbolah who gets his hands on a small nuke (pocket nuke in the back of a truck) and drives it into israel. i mean if this happens then 11 september did not teach us anything. So how good is the security in your opinion and how real is this danger of being truck bombed using dirty or blackmarket weapons?
I might explain this a bit wrong but i hope you get my point and i would like to see this discussion started let see what people think.

I think you need to calm down. :)

Or mount a more cogent argument containing some specifics.

Either or.
Yeah i was just readin my own post and you are right it was a bit strechy to read.

Well a few sort questions:

How far can US and NATO push the limits of their economy to meet the real security dangers anno 2010?

And what role should NATO fullfill to aid its own global security agenda and what could (Should) it do to help the US and other nations around the globe that try to reach the same goals.

As i said before economy means money and money gives you the power to support military actions.
But with a low moral amongst the US & EU civilian population and a very bad economic situation how long can NATO and US keep this up? And what should they do to maintain / end certain issues like Iraq and Afganistan?

Unfortunately the world we live in is not, and never will be a peaceful one. To pretend wars will never happen ultimately works against the cause of a world at peace.

Instead we need pragmatic idealism, invested and active in preserving peace, but willing to wage war with a fearful and unwavering resolve. It is for this reason that all of us need to be engaged in actively developing at least a working understanding of national and international defense issues.

We do need to sit here and talk about this and we need to put some thought into it. Even if you don't advocate, support, or like war, it's important to understand the role military affairs play in global politics and how defense-related issues impact the way nations handle themselves on the world stage.
