Next Generation Heavy-weight/Long range ATGW for the British Army

Hello,

Does anyone have any information or ideas about the next generation Long range or heavy weight ATGW that will be vehical mounted (like swingfire system) for the British Forces.

Light, Medium and airborne systems seem to have been replaced, but not a heavier system for vechical mounting

It was replaced wtih Javelin in mid-2005. I guess they think that is enough. I can't see anything that would really fit in the team comple weapons list either.

So your thinking that a vechical mounted javelin system could be the option the british army takes. I dont see the UK buying euro-spike ER not thats a bad idea mind.

I understood this would be a joint UK/France deal similar to CAMM. But saying that , the old ATGW Swingfire concept was designed to protect CVRT recce units operating forward of heavy armour probing for their Russian BRDM counterparts, the Swingfire providing overwatch protection against the sudden arrival of any T55/62/72 etc.. However with the arrival of Apache and the 40mm armed CVRT replacement I'm not sure ATGW is a priority. The new recce vehicles will be big enough to carry a Javelin team, plus the 40mm caseless is supposed to be as good as older generation 90/100mm systems.

Although it seems that the telescoped 40mm will be a great step forward to reduce the bulkiness of ammunition and to upgun the IFV of the British army it can of course not entirely replace a good ATGM system. But it will reduce the reliance on it for a great many different targets and instances.
