Any rumors of advances this in area?

I thought this was a no-go with a convential warhead. Impossible to target a moving carrier with a ballistic re-entry vehicle?
nice, someone on this forum finally found my blog entry. The usni article of course distorted much of what was said in the original entry (which you need to read to see what I was trying to say)

unless its satellite guided with real time feed constantly fixed on carrier group providing mid flight correction.

Which brings us back to the same conclusion: impossible. Which sat constellation in the sky, or even combination of sat constellations, provides the required real time coverage? The paltry number of surveillance satellites China has won't come anywhere near the numbers required for such a scheme.

The original piece provided quite a bit of explanation. One also has to understand that not every part of the C4ISR for this is up yet. And certain elements aren't going to be launched until wartime.

I wouldn't go with impossible, damned improbable more like it. Every few years we hear about a wonder weapons that can sink a carrier and either they never pan out as expected or tactics and technology changes to reduce the threat.

Can a carrier be sunk? Damn right it can, is it easy when the escorts are on a wartime state of readiness? No.
