Thanks for the infos. :)

Any battlefield management system like in the AIMs?
And do you know which kind of ammo they are going to get?
Yes, they will recieve a battlefield mangement system that compares to AIM, ammunition load out will consist of KEWS 1, MPAT and cannister.

Iraq already got 4 M1A1M tanks delivered. The tanks are coming in batches of 35 (4 out of the first 35 have been delivered.) The last batch arrives in August 2010.

Any word eckherl on the second batch of 140 M1A1M Tanks the IA ordered in 2008? Because of high oil prices the Iraqi MoD (Ministry of Defense) might have delayed or canceled the order. The MoD has delayed or canceled many orders for armored vehicles (wheeled and tracked), helicopters, and many other weapons platforms.

Iraq is spending roughly 2 times revenue at $45 oil. Needless to say this is not sustainable.

Thanks again.

So the Iraqis follow the US in their tradition not to employ a serious HE round... ;) :D

With them getting also the TUSK kits I see one problem.
First I thought that the Abrams are going to provide the Iraqi forces with the needed punch and survivability their T-72s cannot give to them.
So they should be assets which are more geared to providing traditional maneuver warfare against possible conventional threats.

But the better survivability of the Abrams might lead to them being used for exact the same roles the US uses it's Abrams in Iraq.
That would put a constant strain on their availability and training time as well as increase the wear and tear of the fleet.

Correct, the tanks that are already positioned in Iraq should have Iraqi maintenance and logistical support elements conducting extensive training, there is also Iraq officers training that is being conducted in the U.S. I should also point out that the tanks positioned in Iraq were some of the ones that Iraq evaluated for possible purchase. The number of tanks that Iraq wants to purchase keeps changing, hopefully they will get all the ones projected in both batches and will want additional batches in the future. We have given them the designation of M1A1SA, what is the Iraqi press calling them.

Also as a side note, did the Pakistan APC deal go thru approval.

There is a rumor that they may be also shopping around for a 120mm HE round.;) Hopefully and I think that they will take our experiences as a lessons learned during our first initial deployment of heavy armor in a urbanized setting in Iraq and not make the same mistakes. They more than likely will use these tanks as a more of a big maneuver offensive weapons platform with the primary goal of taking the fight to one of their neighbors if needed. I was told that that are still looking at possible T-72 purchases also but that number continues to change.

Tanks contracts

eckherl
General Dynamics just recieved the go ahead to manufacture 140 M1A1 SA tanks for Iraq, they wil be built in Lima Ohio and come equipped with 2nd generation thermal sights for Gunner and TC, Tusk 1 kits and the new Tiger engine pact. I know someone is going to ask what the SA designation stands for so here it is. (Situational Awareness)
Hi eckherl
This is good news sorry for the basic question but are these 140 pre-made models or totally new builds?

Who was the last buyer of M1 tanks before this contract?

Thanks

Pre - made older models but completely refurbished and with some different components. For the 2nd question, additional sales to Egypt.

It looks like the second IA (Iraqi Army) order for 140 M1A1 tanks is going through.

There was a pre-order of components for the second set of long-lead-time components two days ago.

"Also as a side note, did the Pakistan APC deal go thru approval."

Don't know.

Iran, Turkey and the Saudis are probably far ahead of the IA at this point. However catching up to Iran isn't terribly difficult if America continues to provide the assistance. Kuwait and Syria are probably already behind.
