I think that the weight of the barrels, combined with the impossibility of "topping up" the ammo, would be the drawbacks.what about having the barrel itself as the magazine, just remove the barrel via a magazine change and stick a new one on?
In principle I see no reason why not, although the recoil would have been heavy (330g at 505 m/s compared with 240g at 240 m/s for the 40mm HV). It would also have been necessary to develop different ammunition; the 30mm M-Geschoss was developed for anti-aircraft use with delayed action fuzing and the emphasis on blast effect. No, it's easy - the ammo used to be in clipped stacks, but they've developed separate-loaded rounds.
