Are Russia Su-27 combat ready?

Sorry for the basic question but how many basic Su-27s out of the 400+ Russia's AF has are fully operational and combat ready. After reading about Russia's Mig-29s it made me wonder less two regiments were upgraded right?

I'm not trying to start a Russia vs. China thing but was wondering how many Su-27/30, J-8, J-10, does China have near Russia's border?

If the Russian public is just finding out about the Mig-29s maybe there are some Su-27 issues as well going on.

Looking at this from from different sides like how the USAF used the F-15s poor showing in India to drum up support for the F-22 could Russia's AF be doing the same thing for it's Su-35 program?

Thanks

Sinodefence gives a break down on PLAAF deployments by District and by base and are probably as accurate as any other source you will find

http://www.sinodefence.com/armedforces/airforce/aviation.asp

The first district to look at is Shenyang which covers China's North East from Harbin to Dalian. Thsi borders Russia and North Korea and also faces out to S Korea and Japan. It is therefore China most heavily defended region.

After that Beijing District which includes the Russian border along Inner Mongolia

YOu might also want to look at Lanzhou which is a vast District but which also contains the Western Chinese Russian border.

I think it is fair to say though that Russia is not the primary security concern.

The RuAF has 7 regiments of Su-27s each with 24(2X18 Su-27 squadrons) aircraft so 168 are fully operational with maybe a few more for training.

Interesting question ROCK45..

I have a hunch that the tecnical and operative unit number status of the 7 flanker regiments in RuAF are not the the greater concern here..

But the RuAF Su-27s pilots training/flying time is!:(

What kind of Su-27 pilot and instructor overall expertice and experience and so on?

Have they procured a full regiment of the advance Yak 160 trainer yet?

Do anyone know if the RuAF have anything similar to the RED FLAG, i mean a Russian domestic version of something alike?
Where they use Mig31 vs Su-27 vs Mig29, u get the picture..

I have no good answer on this matter Rock45, just more questions.
Sorry..

Thanks

Hi Haavarla
I've tried to find information on even Fulcrum squadrons training against Flanker squadrons in the past but have failed. USAF/USN/USMC Viper, Hornet, and Eagle squadron at one time or another have trained against each other I just can't seem to find anything on the Russia air force.

Dissimilar combat training interests me a lot I would enjoy reading Fulcrum pilots going up against Flanker pilots either Russia or India.

Malaysian Fulcrums, Flankers, + Hornets

Maybe former Eastern Block countries might be a source for such information.

If anybody can help or knows thanks in advance

Sampanviking - thanks for the link

I remember reading something like the RuAF use the 929th GLIC base in Akhtubinsk for developing new strategic and tactical doctrines on the different aircrafts in the RuAF..
And testing new weapons and weapon systems on the upgraded units like Mig-31BM, Su-34 and Su-25BM or was it Su-24BM..
Don't know if they perform any DACT training there:unknown

This was in a Su-34 article in 2008 summer edition of Air International.

Probably not that much, the region that boarder each other among the least developed area for both country.

In the Far Eastern MD I believe we have two Flanker Rgts, iirc both have the new SM Flankers. We also have at least two MiG-31 rgts in the Far Eastern and Siberian MDs which are high readyness units, 100+ flying hours. I don't know the readyness rates of the Flanker SM rgts, but I suspect they're high readyness units since they have modernized aircraft. It would only make sense. Iirc there is a single Fulcrum rgt there, but it's likely to be a low readyness asset.

I think there is no prob with the sukhoi fleets. I believe the Russians gave priority to the flanker and Mig 31 fleets after Soviet Union, and neglected the Mig29's and that is why the MiG 29's are facing the problems it facing now.
