I just saw a worrying press conference in the news.

Taliban gave a press conference saying that they want to take over Pakistan, starting with Peshawar. The taliban guy was a pakistani as he was speaking in Urdu, a Pakistani language.

pakistan must never fall to the Taliban, no matter what the cost. I only found this links for it for now.

a combination of Taliban-Al Qaeda- Kashmir Militant trying to take over Pakistan is becoming more real by the hour.

this is not a flame war on Pakistan, and I hope the mods see it.

I suspect that as soon as the Taliban manage to form a stable national government, they will quickly stop being marginalized radicals, and become fairly stable albeit rather religious, politicians. After all we have Iran and Saudi Arabia both run by what most people would consider a very marginalized group of radicals, and yet both are rational state actors. I urge you to look at the historical example of the Communist Party in Russia which advocated world revolution, classless society, and many other things. As soon as they came to power and formed a stable national government they quickly abandoned most of those ideas on a practical level, and instead focused on doing what every government ultimately tries to do; build up the economy, and the armed forces, and expand their influence in their immediate geopolitical surroundings.

Theres already topics discussing this issue. Why start a new one because there are similiar claims and counter claims in these ones.

Heres one discussion here.

Wanted to point out that the thread provided has been closed. Also, this thread specifically is discussing the Taliban (Talaban?) taking power or control of Pakistan. There are other threads which may be similar, but somewhat different I suspect.

As for the Taliban being able to do so, that I am not sure. It would depend on a combination accumulated military power and social influence IMV. The question is if the Taliban are able to build or garner the needed amounts to do so, that I have no idea. Essentially the Taliban would need to either establish enough force to dominate the country and be able to cow the population, or for a sufficient portion of the population to agree enough with the rules, methods and aims of the Taliban. Or some combinatino thereof.

As for what would (could) occur if the Taliban were to succeed in gaining control of Pakistan... I personally think looking at Russian Communists under Lenin is the wrong group to look to. Instead, I would take a look at Afghanistan when the Taliban ruled there...

-Cheers

No such statement has been given by Taliban. If they had said this they would have told Pakistani media not "Time of India."

Having analyzed Pakistani Taliban for a 8 months now, I call this a pure BS from Indian media as usual.
