Hmm, in the end they are finally going for a real HE.

I would have thought that if the US Army or USMC would overcome the NIH-syndrome it would be a Israeli solution.

They have some interesting stuff as well.

Not that I wouldn't like to see the USMC using DM11s.
BTW, shouldn't PELE also be interesting for forces involded in urban combat with the need to reduce civilian victims as much as possible.

i heard it was a chechnian made high calibrated anti - tank rifle.

the one that shot the m1a1
Do you mean shot or penetrated? If you are talking about penetrated, where was the tank hit and what calibre was the weapon?

We will have to just waite and see, if this pushes the U.S Army towards a Israeli design firm, the U.S Marines tend to kinda go their own way when it comes to testing vehicles, projectiles and other gear. They do not want to ever be labeled as recieving U.S Army hand me downs again like which was the case up to the mid eighties.:D

There is a "leaked" document pertaining to an M1A1 in Iraq being struck and penetrated by an unknown weapon. The report is dated 4th of October, 2008 (6 days ago). I have heard of a Challenger 2 getting hit with what was reportedly an RPG-29 round and being penetrated in Iraq before. But I think RPG-29's are rarely heard of in Iraq (not like S.Lebanon).

Please note that I don't know if this document is genuine or not. I'm posting it here in the hopes that some of our tank experts here at DT could read it and tell us how genuine they think the document is as well as what they think the weapon was.

Here is the document. (PDF file)
Looks like a typical tandem shaped charge strike. It certainly isn't a KE weapon. A good expose on how well the M1 series is designed. So long as you are not the poor sap who gets in the way of "the pencil" the tank can still fight.

cheers
