Defence Budget Question

Hello all, I haven't posted on DT a long time. Now, I'm back. When the U.S. defense budget (not including wars) is about $482 billion does that include procurement money spent to procure bombs used in wars? Or does the money allocated for the wars include the munitions used and everything else? I know that maybe MRAPs would be included in the regular defese procuerment but then used to fight the wars.

hmm....so out of Us's 600+ billion defence spending, only $482 bill is for procurement/maintenance? The balance is for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Yes and no. Depends which 600 Billion you're talking about. Sometimes that includes defence and national security (Federal Agencies and Department of Energy) money and sometimes it includes defence and supplemental war money -10 Billion a month at least according to some sources to fund the wars............my guess is closer to 12.

Brett.

Let me try to restate my question. Does the base U.S. defense budget include procurment money to replace the bombs used in the wars? Does it include money to buy new equipment to replace the stuff worn out in the wars? Or does the war budget include all that stuff?
