South Africa only supply the MSWS/RWR only.

the bulk of the avionic are from France e.g. HUD, MFD, INS etc.

India supplied the mission computer.

Russia supplied the radar.

this is a hell of integration ...

Really, Malaysia should consider a High/Low Mix both sharing a common engine...........say Typhoon/Gripen or Flanker/J-10?:gun

what you said make some sense. but we have to consider the respective air forces doctrine and budget.

i guessed in 5 years time, Malaysia might have a hi-lo mix in the form of Flanker and Super Hornet for hi and Fulcrum for lo. notice all are twin engine jets.

Well, I understand why Malaysia likes a mix of fighters for Political reasons. Yet, she has a small force and in times of crisis. She could find only a few available..............

that is true. that is why Malaysia diversified its supplier. i can tell you it is a hell of a nightmare for ILS.

You think that's bad..........India has to be far worse!:smash

but at least India can produce some parts and components themselves. hell, they can even design and built jets. this makes them less dependent on the suppliers.

but i really doubt malaysia will build their own jets as it is not cost effective to do so even building spare parts would not be a cost saver cause of the small numbers of jets. Which is why we buy em...

i beg to differ. locally manufactured spare parts is cheaper than imported spare parts. i know this for a fact. also local produced spare parts has shorter lead time.

yeah but then you have to take into the account of hiring ppl for the job, importing the technical know how, constructing a factory, getting the materials needed, the logistics chain etc... and more importantly the items built have to be reliable... in a span of a year how many engines, or other major items is needed for 18 planes? if it was tyres or some small item they have airrod to do the repairs...

i know building it is cheeper as per item, but in an overall cost it isnt economical and in a country that spends only 10% of their national gdp on defence that isnt worth the tax payers money...

wrong. wrong. wrong.

you don't need to set-up a brand new factory to produce aircraft spare parts locally.

what the hell all the precision manufacturing houses in Malaysia for? all they need is just the technical data. i know for fact that some aircraft spare parts are being produced locally in Malaysia.

hell, we even produced nuclear centrifuge without even realizing it.

Malaysia don't spend 10% of GDP in defence. get facts your facts straight. :gun

The thread is 3 years old so no one from the above members would probably reply. You should have started new discussion rather digging old grave.

we might as well delete this thread. I had a long argument with aussie digger about the merits of either aircraft months ago.
