The U100 ...will be 100% built in America ...
And you can imagine the quality is gonna be so much better.

Have you guys ever encountered US-made Colt AR-15's during your service? We used to have a few examples in pristine condition in our Brigade HQ armoury. Somehow, the fit and finishing just feels better.

The U100 I fired - Mk1 and Mk3 - had really shxtty finishing and the construction was very flimsy. If you butt stroke someone the U100 is guaranteed to fall apart.

(Yes, a non-QCB Mk 1, and spare me the comments about my age.)

Re: The 100 round magazine.
IINM, the original RFI had a requirement for a 100 round mag as a threshold (mandatory) requirement. I'm starting to hear of that being dropped ...

Re: The Semi-auto function.
Again, IINM, the original RFI only stated semi-auto capability without specifying open/close bolt or "accuracy" as a definer. Again, I'm starting to hear of the gradual mounting emphasis on the semi-auto function.

What troubles me is that the original "requirements" (if they can be called that) spec'ed out something more true to the nature of an Automatic Rifle, ala U100. What I'm hearing now seems to be a move towards an advanced Assault Rifle with managed recoil in automatic fire, ala LWRC IAR.

I'm not sure what the exact text of the Phase II/III requirements are and what I'm hearing may be nothing more than biased interpretations of the actual requirements ... or it may be that lobby groups have actually shifted the goal posts to favour the competition towards a pre-conceived "winner".

The 100 round mag is still required for the IAR. Ask SMGLee about it since he knows more than I do.
