Too bad this seems to be a UK only show, recently their was a "warts and all" documentary about the USS Nimitz's 2005 deployment on US TV (I've heard other countries got it though) and it was quite good since it was about the crew and not the ship.
I'd love to see this show just to compare the 2.

Well, I'm 3/4's way thru the 1st episode, & I'm impressed !

WARTS & ALL!!

Shows just wot the guys have to do & have to endure, WRT the equipment they're using. Also highlights how hard FOST are too, not like their reputation doesn't proceed them anyway!

Part of the reason UK RN is one of the best navies in the world...

Looks like I'm gonna be hooked !

SA :D

yeah it was good, I have the Sailor series on dvd and it seemed to me that there was much more discipline back in the 70's compared to now, and i also found it cool to compare how cramped the old Ark was to Illustrious it was like a ghost ship.

I saw the 1st episode two didn't realize how nice it was for the officers :p:. Nice how it shows how complex a ship is with all that equipment to go wrong. Will be watching more

HMS Illustrious was in Istanbul during Her Majesty's visit to Turkey. The crews undisciplined night-outs created a minor scandal and a minor accident almost cost the British Navy a brand new EH-101. According to the newspapers the cable which connected the vehicle that was pulling one of the EH-101s snapped and the vehicle fell of to Bosporus with the sailor in it. The EH-101 was saved by luck when it stopped moving just at the edge of the deck. The sailor was saved but the vehicle had to wait for 4 days in the sea until Her Majesty left for UK. The vehicle was saved by a crane from the bottom of the sea and the ship left Istanbul a few days ago. :)

Yeah back on the old Ark when you got real drunk you where locked up had pay deducted and had leave stopped I cant say what it is really like on board as i haven't been in the Navy but it did seem to me they were a lot more easy on them on the Illustrious.
Also the CVF's will have a crew about the same size as the invincible class everyone is gonna have there own room with on suite shower.

I was thinking that when I was watching the program how much more space they would have on the CVF as nearly three times the size

Well things got further than being really drunk to explicit exhibitionism done by male and female soldiers... I don't know how soldiers are allowed to do that whether they are drunk or not. That would be an end of military career for officers/ncos in Turkey , and for conscripts well your 1.5 year military service would probably not end for the rest of the decade :D

I got a photo of the accident but its from a news paper so scan would be bad but the chopper was indeed on the brink of falling to sea.

Don't have PBS. Watch the shows on your home computer around the world.

I wished BBC5 had episodes on the web.
