I think everyone can differentiate which one is F-7 & which one is Sabre-II. The Sabre-II initiated for the modification & modernization of PLAAF's F-7s.

Sabre-II project was initiated by the Chinese in cooperation with Northrop Grumman. Due to political uprising in China & its suppression by the Chinese authorities United States pulled Northrop Grumman from the project. The project however was restarted under the name of J-9 later turned to Super-7 under CAC. CAC invited Pakistan (PAF/PAC) to joint venture & Super-7 was renamed to JF-17 & FC-1 with the aircraft completely & radically modified.

Very interesting Sabre!

Never knew they were involved with the Chinese at some point.

Tell me, what is the most advanced form of "Sabre" today that you know of, and do they get other identifying tags, like an "F" or whatever?

Northrop was neck deep into it. Sabre-II could have compensated for their F-20 program & bring in huge cash. PLAAF would have gone for large numbers & PAF was open for purchase (the Sabre-II in the pic is with PAF markings).

Only three Sabre programs I know of:

1. F-86 Sabre
2. F-100 Super Sabre
3. Sabre-II

All in the past & none of them advance in todays standards. The Sabre-II program adopted a lot from Northrop's F-20 program though, but still not upto todays aircrafts.
