F-15E to Carry Patriot 3?

Recently I picked up the newest issue of the Air International and they had a second little magazine all about the history of the F-15. In the section about future development of the F-15E they said the USAF is going to attempt to allow the Eagle to carry Patriot PAC 3 missile for tactical anti ballistic missile defence. Has anyone else heard this claim or idea?

Old idea, i think USAF already tested or at least showed a mock-up of such composition. Allthought i dont think this idea will ever come to fruition.

Check this- US jet intercepts ballistic missile for first time the F-16 already done an intercept. I don't know if Patriots could be adopted for F-15, and frankly that jet had some serious problems lately.
The missile itself weighs 2200 pounds and its range is 43 miles. http://www.cdi.org/issues/bmd/Patriot.html
The F-15E [the most capable variant] can carry up to 23,000 lbs. in payloads, or weapons. http://library.thinkquest.org/16470/info.html
So, theoreticaly they could carry Patriots, provided that the fuel & A2A missiles are not over the limit. My guess is that the AF will not risk putting such heavy missiles on them- to extend their lifetimes they better not!

Isnt Russian planes with shody workmanship n poor quality control supposed to have those problems?

If newer build of F15's can have these problems, what holds for F22 in the future?

Russian aircraft are renowned for their simplicity and ruggedness, not for shoddy workmanship and poor quality control, and the F-22A is an entirely different airframe from the 'Mudhen', as well as being from an entirely different primary contractor.

But regardless, wouldn't the launching aircraft require some sort of exterior data support from an AWACS or ground RADAR, or is it able to use its own RADAR set?

The F-15 is getting pretty old. Airframes flying a lot of hours over a number years just get fatigued and tired.

If they mounted PAC3 on an F-15E or C, the planes current radar proberly wouldn't be sufficent.

Any way, doesnt the anti-ballistic missile variant use IR tracking?

Perhaps for the terminal kill stage, but in the vehicle's boost stage it's probably datalinked to a ground RADAR.

No, actually i'm pretty sure ordinary F-15/F-16 AESA would be more than enouth for that task. Remember, it is just PAC-3 missile with 100km range, not some 5t heavy interceptor with 3000km range. Datalink might be nessesary in ground->fighter chain to give initial target aquision for fighter radar.
