Lately, I have seen a lot of news about India:

They have (or in the process of acquiring) :

Su-30MKI (180+)
Mig-35
F-35
PAK-FA (Russian F-22)
PAK-DA (Russian strategic stealth bomber)

Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles (DRDO indicate to develop hypersonic version, with far longer range possibly over 5000 km)

Surya 1 ICBM (10,000 km)
Surya 2 ICBM (20,000 km)

1 aircraft carrier, 3 aircraft carriers by 2012
SSBNs (3-4 under construction)
Aegis Combat System (US is offering)
40 advanced warships under construction
Indo-US nuclear deal (essentially freeing up Indian uranium reserve that was tie-up to the powerplant.. for weapon making. Note that they did not sign the NPT)

Indigenous missile shield (with help from Israeli, American, and Russian)

And I am wondering is there an Indian threat?? It seems everyone is arming Indians to the teeth with latest-tech stuff, with full ToT (meaning they can make these on their own), isn't it a bit too prudent to do so?

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Why give up your best stuff to a foreign country? If we are not careful, they are going to be a very powerful force with almost none of their weapons made indeginously!.

For starters were the hell did you pull the F35, a russian F22 :)onfloorl:) and a russian stealth bomber? The notion of a russian stealth anything is pretty ludicris.

They have 3 squadrons of SU30MKI if i'm not mistaken, with plans for 7+. The MiG 35 is on offer thats all.

As for the rest i'm scheptical as to its accuracy but its 3:30 in the am here and i cant be bothered checking.

But anyway...

First of all a threat to whom????? A threat to the chinese? Yes. A threat to the Pakistani's??? yes. A threat to the west???? No. A threat to the US???? Not a chance in hell.

PAK-FA
It was announced on 2007-05-22 by Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov that the first flight of the PAK-FA is expected in late 2008.

US offer F-35 to India
It's in the news. Just google.

PAK-DA:
And I think someone here knows more about this, the stealth bomber are funded 50/50 between Russia and India.

PAK-DA, PAK-FA and SSBNs, plus their own missile shield. That gives them first strike advantage, and survivable second strike capabilities as well. PAK-DA, PAK-FA and SSBNs, plus their own missile shield are all expected to be indigenously produced (full ToT).

Well, what makes you think that if situation requires it, they may not turn around and become hostile ?? If India is to settle the Kashmir issue or even possibly invade Pakistan, Bangladesh, with these weapons around, do you seriously believe the West is going to challenge them? They also have the backing of the Russians too.

india is a threat to nobody. let me explain !!

the surya-1 & surya-2 ICBMs have not yet been tested & chances r that they never will be, bcoz after the 123-agreement, the indian ballistic programme will be capped at 6000-km only.

indian SSk construction like the scorpene is way behind schedule & will be delivered only in 2014, by that time it will be obsolete.

the delivery of admiral gorshkov have been put off indefinitely & will only arrive in 2011.

MiG-35s r not the best fighter in the world, & andrew!! for ur informatoin america has not even offered india the F-22, which means that even the U.S.A is not too keen to arm india.

only the israelis have offered some help, but even they have not offered their latest weapons like the Dolphin-classs SSK or the arrow-II

so rest assured that india is a threat only to small nations like bangladesh, not china or pakistan.

How about the SSBN? The Surya maybe (this is not inked, the Indo-American nuclear deal never mention they going to limit the ICBM range) limit to 6000 km range, but the SSBN are not.

Of course the U.S. hasn't offered India the F-22 Nero, we haven't offered it to anyone and it's not going to anyone but us. Andrew meant the Pak-Fa, which is supposedly the Russian F-22.

. even the indian SSBNs r nothing but old obsolete charlie-class or delta-IV class SSBNS

the ATV project itself mired in confusion & they r based upon obsolete Typhoon class SSBNs.

these SSBNs r a threat only to the crew & nobody else.

the chinese JIN-class SSNs r much more capable than their old indian counterparts.

just get this straihgt ATV is junk 1960 russian technology, they will sink ceremoniously like the kursk

I've put a cap in this thread for the time being.

Put some reflection into the posts - how and why - instead of machinegunning each other with this is better than that. Where did the actual arguments go?

Perhaps it will be reopened later.
