Is the era of the superpowers really over?
(Like a this superpower v/s that superpower)Is this era over???
or
Does the future belong to alliances???
(Like the communist alliances, islamic alliances,or geographic alliances)

What do u think??? Superpowerism still holds relavance today??? or was it a bygone era??

The rise of china and india, both of them have got dreams of becoming a 'superpower'. On the other side countries like Brizil, South africa are also rising. Not to forget, Russia is very rapidly growing.
Will all this mean the future has got no place for superpowers and the answere to supremacy lies in key alliances???

Please leave your opinion!!!!

I think:

Superpowers still hold a place in the world. My big point on this is technology. As technology is R&Ded, nations will develop more and better ways of attacking other nations. A big army is nothing these days unless they are equipped with top-of-the-line equipment. Precision targeting weapons and WMDs allow for much more damage to be done than in the days of WWII.

So yes, I think superpowers will continue to exist and will be categorized as those nations with great technology.

Just my thoughts though.

Alright the superpowerism may make a little relavance today, but in the immediate future, that is in the nest 10 to 20 years, the world will see the rise of asia, which in inevitable. The rise of china and india ,both with the ambition to become superpowers, have the capacity to change the powerbalance of the world. The US will take a lot of time to come out of the iraq debacle and will think more than twice before invading any country. The key to victory in the future conflicts will be 'groups'. If more countries come together and form unions on the lines of european union, them the superpower-ism theory may came to an end.

You are talking about replacing one super-power with another, or a gaggle of nations trying to be one. Hardly seems to be an obsolete concept.

From a technological stance, the nation that best rewards hard work and innovation will always attract the best inventors. I don't see the US loosing that edge any time soon.

I voted no.

Being a superpower comes with a price. That price is a big price tag and an IOU to the rest of the world in trillions is not a sustainable model.

You also cannot be an empire superpower and be a democratic welfare state at the same time. There is a dichotomy between the two types and they cannot mutually exist. A long time ago, Great Britain decided it rather be a welfare state than a superpower, and pretty much, the rest of Europe has followed.

You cannot say you want to be a present day superpower and yet somehow, afford to be a future welfare state, when your productive population base of baby boomers is now old and in social welfare.

Its time to think if we can even afford our futures.

If chinas growth rate remains same then in 20 years china will reach the place of todays US and after 20 years what is the position of US is (no one knows) so how many years india needs to take the current chineess place ... and after how many years they got the US place .... 60 or 80 years ...... Wake seee soome realities of the World .. But Russians can regain there Pride... Mother Russia will rise again one day

The World power are; America, Russia, British, France, China & Europeans
Who are the manufactures and have the technology with their scientist.

Where as the countries who are buyer and depends on other, can not be listed as world power; Just like Pakistan, India etc.

The dream of destroying some one with power with limited source can not be champion, how long they will fight, when theirs fighter are not there, & depending on others.

Indo Pak have emotional, mentality having bought toys, and has tendency play with & break

Alright u have raised a valid point here. But my point is that, today iraq is a great example. The big and so called superpowers have not been able to get the situation right or they havent got any assesment of the situation of just one country. Now u r talking as just one country. Now imagine a situation where you have to defeat both India and Pakistan together. What if the asians have created a single big alliance. What happens to the so called superpowers than??

If alliances form, then the value of superpowerism does not exist at all!!!!!
