Finally I'll introduce myself. I'm a 50 yo American street cop in a big city I wont name. I have been in some type of uniform ever since my 18 birthday, including 4 years in my countries service. Overall I have almost 29 years of Police experience. While I haven't "seen" and "done it all, Ive seen and done enough. And thru it all the wisest words Ive ever heard are to train, train, train, and to always be humble about knowledge.

Thanks to all for making this a good forum. I think just in doing research before posting, and listening to professionals here, its a fine learning source.

Greetings

Hello from Jackson MS. Life long defense enthusiast, growing up doing orbats for ficticous countries. This august I'll be a L1 law school student at the local university; my undergrad degree was in Insurance and Risk Management. I was going to be in the Air Force, having completed 3 years of afrotc way back in 2003, but I had some heart issues come up tht have prevented me from serving. So my military expirence is limited to the afrotc syllabus and field training. My defense interests encompass all areas, but I am also an avid shooter, mainly tactical type rifles like AR-15's etc. which I collect.

Welcome to all our new members. I hope you enjoy your stay and I look forward to your contributions.

Paveway, I suspect there are quite a few members who had planned on a military career but who for one reason or another never made it into uniform in the permanent forces. In my case it was not a health problem but an apalling inability in Mathematics and Physics that spoiled my dreams. :( I wanted to be a naval pilot but had to settle on a study of naval history instead. Less exciting but much safer!

Cheers

New to the Forum

I am Gaines Blackwell, a 67 year old retire professor of architecture and design at Auburn University in Alabama. I currently actively practice residential design and I have had a life long interest in military affairs, read up on military happenings with an emphasis on history. I also find current military hardware of great interest and found this site by following links. I am fortunate to have traveled extensively in Europe and less so in Asia. I am impressed by the great variety of members from different backgrounds, countries and ages, adds richness to the forums. Have never been in the military, rejected because of arthritis, which increased my interest. I simply like to learn. My other hobby is collecting 1950-1970 German 10 M competition air rifles and find them all over the globe.

Hello

Hi everyone,
excellent site, this. I'm impressed by the quality of the posts around here. Way to go.
Me, I'm French, have seen military service in the French Air Force (Armée de l'Air) as a reserve officer in 1989/90 (no, not as a pilot, though I trained the buggers in English so that NATO could at least have a fair chance at understanding them :D ). Obviously, I'm interested in all things flying (i.e. airforces or naval air arms), but I'm not averse to an occasional discussion about other services. If anyone has a question about the French airforce or French forces in general, I'll be happy to answer them to the best of my abilities, but keep in mind I was not "technical staff", so my knowledge in that respect is limited. Oh, and before anyone asks: yes, I did fly myself (private pilot licence, courtesy of the AdlA ;) ).
