F-16s not to Fly at Aero India 2005

The U.S. F-16 fighters will not participate in the flying display of Aero India 2005, authoritative sources told aeroindianews.com.“As of now there are no plans whatsoever to display the F16 at Aero Indiaâ€, the source said adding that other aircraft of Lockheed Martin such as the PC3 Orion and the C130 Hercules will be on display and may take part in the flying demonstrations.

The F-16 is pitted against the Russian MiG-29 MRCA, the latest version of the MiG-29, the SAAB Grippen and the Mirage-2000 for a share of the estimated $9 billion order to buy 126 fighter planes for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The Indian MoD is reported to have issued a request for information (RFI) to the U.S. government to provide information for the bid.

“There have been some reports that the F-16s will be among the flying displays at Aero India but the U.S. government or Lockheed Martin knows nothing about itâ€, the source said.

The presence of the F-16s was expected to add considerable excitement at AI 05 as it would match its skills with its two arch-rivals in the fighter aircraft business – the Sukhoi 30 and the MiG-29.

Interestingly, the F-16 has not lost a single competition for fighter aircraft contracts but it remains to be seen how it fares in India, if at all the U.S. government allows Lockheed Martin to bid for the project.

I just stumbled across this piece of news. What is the final word now? F-16s coming or not coming to Aero India?

Yea, they shd hope to garner Indian interest with the F15E's .. Lockheed should outsource their advertizing and marketing to India, only then will they succeed .. :p

Brahmos, please provide a source when you make such claims. We all see what happened to the appearance of F-16 (much hyped about by the Indian media) at Aero India. Lets just be practical about what will be there and what will not be. I think if F-15s are coming, then they would probably be the same ones used in exercises with IAF earlier (probably this time 'with' the capabilities that were not used in the exercises).

-16s not to participate in Aero India show

Thursday, January 13, 2005 - The fifth edition of India's premier aviation event 'Aero India 2005' may have lost a bit of its military star value with US F-16 fighters, touted as the star attraction for the event, not likely to participate.

The US participation in 'Aero India 2005', despite being the best to date, will not include flying or static displays of the F-16 jet fighter, said Indian Air Force officials involved with organisation of the event.

Live and static displays of US military aircraft will now be restricted to the F-15E Eagle, the C-130J Hercules and the maritime P-3C Orion.

It could still change at the very last moment but as it looks now, the F-16 is not coming.

For local military aviation buffs, the news is a bit of a letdown because they were looking forward to compare the performance of the F-16s with its arch-rivals the Sukhoi-30 MKI and the MiG-29 - both of which are used by the IAF.

f-16s,PAC-3s etc should not be even considered by india, for that matter any american aircraft. It is better to buy a slightly inferior fighter than to depend on the so called super-power US for weapons or spares.
we already know the problems faced by pakistan in maintaining their F-16 fleet, they had to cannibalise some aircraft for spares. also Russian fighters are cheaper and can be bought in volumes.

These F16 nuts are kiddin me by saying F16's are the star attractions. F16's are something that India won't ever consider, no matter what block or ToT that the US offers.
