I have just watched the first two episodes of British Sky's "The Wargame". The Wargame is a four-part Sky docudrama that puts real former politicians, military commanders and intelligence figures into a fictional British government and then feeds them a rapidly escalating Russian crisis in real time. Interesting but depressing how pathetic the UK navy is portrayed. Only 1 type 45 destroyer is available, a type 23 is sunk by a Russian sub and the UK has no defence against Russian ballistic missiles. The wheels of the UK bureaucracy seem to move so slowly and the US is not supportive at all. No response from Europe at this stage. I am only up to episode 3 but the UK seems totally stuffed.

Perhaps the scenario isn't entirely realistic and is basically supplying "difficult" decisions to the contestants rather than likely real world outcomes? The availability of T45 is certainly a problem, but how did they determine that the t23 , a sub hunter, was sunk by a Russian sub? Was that wargamed in dome sort of simulation (a good simulation) or just a decision point that could be used for dramatic effect?

The T23 was busy helping survivors of a Russian research vessel that had hit some rocks. This was hypothesised as a deliberate action to distract the T23.
Many of the situations simulated so far have strong messages for us in Australia. That is, to name a few, our lack of tier 1 navy vessels, lack of missile numbers and poor defence of military sites and cities. Also our two LHD's have been sidelined for at least the last two weeks already with propulsion problems and HMAS Choules recently returned from deployment and its crew is on leave, meaning the navy would struggle to respond to an immediate crisis.

Meanwhile, in other news, Type 45 seems to have sprouted a set of launchers which may or may not be counter UAS:

Royal Navy destroyer HMS Dauntless fitted with unidentified new launchers - Navy Lookout

During August, HMS Dauntless was fitted with new equipment on her upper deck, likely counter-drone interceptors. This has not been officially confirmed as the RN will not comment on the matter. The fit closely matches an urgent requirement put to industry in March and comes as the destroyer...

Not quite catching your drift here - it's a statement from a government web site, and is basically a declaration of policy. Like every statement made this way, it can be overtaken by events. I'm not sure what "corroboration" you're after here?
