The Royal Navy Discussions and Updates

Well it seems the RN sailors were better behaved in the bars compared to British soccer fans in bars based on the number of arrests.:D

Bad place to run riot apparently, the locals aren't accustomed to the wit and banter (or chronic under tipping)

They'll be getting a kicking I'm sure - and due to the publicity, something over and above the norm I suspect.

With all the Trump stuff, nobody noticed much would be my guess except for the the servers. Without tips, the wages don’t cover much so this would be an issue for sure.

It's only under tipping because of the bizarre US custom of expecting customers to pay most of the wages of bar & restaurant staff directly, instead of the employer paying his or her employees - a custom reflected in tax laws which assume that waiters & barmaids get at least the local general minimum wage (which doesn't apply to them in most states) & taxing 'em on that basis, so if they don't get what would be extraordinarily generous tips anywhere else they could be taking home almost nothing.

Jolly Jack off QE is having a good run ashore in Mayport and honouring the age old naval run ashore tradition of maximum inebriation and fighting. The locals are taking it all in their stride and some sailors will be on requestmens and defaulters parade the morning after with their caps off an a grumpy jaunty alongside. :D

Drunken British sailors are invading Florida and beating each other up, because why not?
I wonder how long we will have to wait until these guys get some R and R in Sydney.

It's not them you gotta worry about. It's us kiwis. At one stage the RNZN was banned from the fleet bar at GI for a couple of years due to being extremely naughty boys and girls. :D

That's part of it but tips are only partially reported as income both in the US and Canada so tips are often tax free money which is why servers accept the pi$$ poor wages. Can't speak for the US but Canada's CRA is smart enough not to $uckup the job market for young Canadians trying to get money for college or basic needs by applying the tax axe. The server industry is huge for North American youth. It's not like junior would utilize this additional tax revenue for anything useful, like say, nation defence.

This comment about the QE's visit to Florida from the UKDefence journal site was just too funny not to repost here.:D

One of the sailors I arrested last night kept asking if the Queen knew. I assured him her majesty probably didn’t. I now know the dumb look I got in return was because he was referring to his boat.

Besides the media beat up from not building at home, I don’t really think anyone has said a bad word about them yet until now.

Is the rush by they commercial yards pushing them thru too fast for the QA?
Just about all new builds, large and small take some time to sort out problems, including bad workmanship, mistakes, incorrect fittings and a plethora of others no matter which yard builds them. They usually manifest themselves in the first year or so of service.
Most of these issues never surface and are dealt with during regular manintenance, sometimes needing outside help.
My take would be some sections of the media will report any nonsense in order to push an agenda that these ships should have been built in the UK and that overseas yards produce rubbish.

QUEEN ELIZABETH has arrived in New York. I fully expect the welcome fleets in Perth andd Sydney in 2021 will be a great deal bigger than she got today. Raw footage (?) video just put online. Worth a look.

For the record, this is diplomacy visit. The F-35Bs went ashore for some work before rejoining the ship lat next week. Carrier should be in New York for six days or so.

Not sure when QE is visiting Australia but I am guessing the weather will be nicer than the NYC in the fall. Then there is all the political distractions as the US midterms approach.
