WelcomeHello,
I am a new member based in the UK. I am pleased to have discovered this forum as I have been interested in all things military for as long as I can remember. At my boys’ boarding school I greatly enjoyed the Officers’ Training Corps but I decided I was not enough of an all round athlete for a military career. Also I would have found it impossible to decide between the Army and Navy as I am extremely interested in both!
I also studied Politics at university and have a keen interest in world affairs and geopolitics. While my main interests are in the British Army and Royal Navy (especially from WW2 to the end of the Cold War), I would also like to learn more about the Australian Armed Forces as I was born in Melbourne (but have lived in the UK for the age of 6).
Looking forward to posting and corresponding.
Cheers,
Douglas
Thank you Sir.Welcome
If you read through the UK and Australian threads on here you will get as good an education on those 2 Military’s as you can get just about anywhere.
G'day Douglas, welcome to the forum. We hope that you enjoy your time here. Please acquaint yourself with the rules. I would suggest that if you were / are going to join up, join the Navy. Not only is it the senior service, but also why carry you home around and live in a hole when your home can carry you around and give three hot squares a day? You don't have to be an all round athlete or a Hussain Bolt, just be fit. Also, officering isn't all that cracked up like what they claim I was lower deck in both the RNZN & RNZAF so my prejudices probably show, but only in friendly banter. I was lucky to serve with some officers whom I'd follow into hell and back.Hello,

G’day Sir, Many thanks for your very friendly welcome. I’m actually a bit too old to join up now although I am fit because I am a keen outdoorsman. However I am still interested. Corps at school and college was exclusively officer-orientated; I enjoyed it but at that time there was a greater emphasis on athletics. I wasn’t bad (I played Rugger for the House when I was at school) but was more academic really. While my main interest has been the Army for many years I am now more inclined if anything towards the Senior Service. I take your point about lower deck and love all forms of banter!G'day Douglas, welcome to the forum. We hope that you enjoy your time here. Please acquaint yourself with the rules. Jeez don't call me sir, I worked for a living, am no gentleman and have never been knighted. Rugger eh, well I am a Kiwi and it's the religion here. You take care Douglas.G’day Sir, Many thanks for your very friendly welcome. I’m actually a bit too old to join up now although I am fit because I am a keen outdoorsman. Yes, I used Sir out of politeness but there was an element of leg-pulling involved as well because of your comments on officers. I know that Rugger/Rugby (whichever term you want to use) is a religion in NZ.Jeez don't call me sir, I worked for a living, am no gentleman and have never been knighted. G'day @Kapitan . Welcome aboard. We hope that you enjoy you time here and look forward to your contributions to the various discussions. Please take time to familiarise yourself with the rules.Good Evening all
Originally i am from the UK however i currently reside in Canada, i spent 3 and a half years in the merchant navy of which 9 months of that was STUFT.
I specialize in Logistics and have worked almost my entire career in transport, specifically the movement of specialist cargo's predominantly for defense, these would be sea land or air movements, and during my time i have managed or taken part in major logistics projects, which include war games and exercises for NATO and associated allies, i have also worked along side but not directly for FOST.
I have worked with nearly every NATO partner country specifically in the area of logistics and supply chain, i have also worked with associated powers such as Australia, Sweden, South Korea and Japan, as well as been invited to other non member countries such as China and Russia to participate in bilateral events.
Sounds fancy its really not, it is mundane and can be as simple as getting a can of soup half way across the world yesterday.
I look forward to seeing whats on the forum and chipping in where i can and learning something new.
Thanks and Kind Regards

G'day @Albedo , welcome to the forum. We hope that you enjoy you time here and look forward to your contributions to the various discussions. Please take time to familiarise yourself with the rules.Hello,
I think defence enthusiast in the context of this site probably assumes more knowledge than I have, but I'm definitely fascinated by the topic. I'm from Canada and have great respect for our military men and women. I'm excited to join this community and looking forward to learning new things.
