If this is a BS leak there are going to be a lot of red faced journalists ..... If true I am gob smacked given the parent vessel (the SSN) is very very very late.

And wait for it ......... I can almost be the next suggestion will be why don't we build some as nuke :confused:

Hopefully we will al be put out of our agony very soon!!!!

Bill Shorten is giving a live speech in Brisbane on the ABC at the moment. I only caught the end of it but he is committing Labor to build and sustaining the future submarine in Australia

I think that that part of it has bi-partisan support and no matter which consortium won the SEA 1000 project the submarines would be built in Adelaide - even option J.

Then it may indeed be option F, we'll have much explaining to do regarding why they've considered it the best bet.

This is definitely the darkest timeline.

Fingers crossed it's a good sub and well run project. I'm not convinced any of the bidders would deliver without timeline and budget problems, but hopefully it's not too drastic.

was it announced whether it will be the hybrid model - 2 built in France + upskill aussie workers and rest in Oz or all in Oz?

At least a hybrid model might address issues of getting some new subs sooner rather than later.

I feel a bit sick. Hoping GF or Volk or someone can come in and make me/us feel better about this project's future... :(

All Submarines built in Adelaide, they've got nearly a decade to get the design right before first steel cut. Sounds like it was the Navys descision supported by 2 US Admirals who were drafted in to go over the bids. Just hope it doesn't end up like the Indian Rafale descision.

God help us.....

What about the combat systems? The integration issues? The fact we need to reconfigure to Diesel Electric? This is going to get messy.
Yeah, what about them?

It beggars belief that all those thick admirals, Australian and USN, and a slew of subject matter experts with the actual bids in front of them never even thought of THAT. Maybe we should write a dissenting judgement.

Well I thought DCNS would win. And lets be honest it may too us seem risky but if they pull it off we will have a very good boat.

Don't panic Mr Mannering, don't panic. It's a big boat for sure and looks like it's got plenty of room. If the Admirals like it and the sub drivers are happy about the choice then it must be good because they are the ones who live in the sub world and will know. Now as long as the pollies don't bugger it up like they have with the Collins and the SEA5000, by delays, indecisiveness and making decisions not to make decisions about the program.

Would like to hear your reasons as to why you thought DCNS would win.

Personally, I thought it would be Options J or G for the simple fact that they have proven designs.
