Trust me, SSBN's costs even more than Tu-160. And? You cant compare apples and oranges here - Tu-160 and Su-34 serve completely different purpose. Either way, Russia DONT plan: 1. Retire Tu-160 2. Retire Tu-22M. 3. Retire Su-25.
please don't take my post out of the context, it was a reply to a post who asked how can the Russian Air force afford Su-34 if they can't afford Tu-160, I just tried to compare the operational cost.

yes, SSBN do cost more than Tu-160. But with all of the nuclear subs they are scrapping, I'm sure you will have more tu-160s than SSBNs.
Hmm, for the time being Russians have more SSBN's warheads than they allowed due to START threaties. Either way, currently Russia build SSBN's at higher rate than ANYONE in the world including USA. In fact, they are probably build them at higher rate than the rest of the world combined (althought China is a black horse here, noone knows how much SSBN's are planned there).

How many are under construction in the US, UK and France?

Albeit Blair is looking to replace our current SSBN's with a more advanced version.
I know I am the main culprit, but let's not get sidetracked in an aviation thread.

I just thought, as swerve put numbers on, that NATO is on the bottom of the curve of the SSBN build cycle.

Well, the su-34 sure is a cool plane..but for it to replace the tu-22 and the su-24 would mean that they would need a lot more su-34s....having just a little of these planes would be a insufficient....whats the use of having a plane with good avionics.....created under great technology, but there's just a little number of these planes to help/support and defend the russian's airspace???

As proven in the US you can now kill multiple targets with a single aircraft. 10 years ago you needed multiple aircraft per target. Weapons are more accurate so they can be smaller and lighter so more weapons can be carried.

Russia wouldn't even have to replace the old aircraft 1 for 1. Even if they had half as many SU-34's they'd still be able to hit more targets.

Well, there is no way that Su-34 will be deployed in large numbers as the budget is very low and probably won't cover more than 100 of Su-34 in the next decade.
