The full version of the documentary "Into The Deep" now available for free on YouTube:

After I watched this my biggest concern is that it could take 4 years to complete the LOTE on each of the Collins subs. Means that that work on the first sub won't be completed until 2030 with the final sub not being completed until 2050. Clearly that just won't work.

Maybe slightly OT, but what do you all think of Task Force 107's sight seeing tour of Oz?
Just going off the route they took it seems pretty clear. A bit of posturing up around PNG probably due to the recent agreements with Australia and the US. Then following the coast down and drawing extra close when passing FBE and FBW, possibly trying to challenge the assumption that those bases are out of reach. And of course the live fire exercise right between Australia and New Zealand was part of the message too.

I wonder if they stopped for a FISHEX along the way. They might have found it too cold for a SWIMEX, being warm climate boys. That and the sharks might have scared them off.

Would have loved to see the combined ELINT and SIGINT analysis that's been done on all those platforms, talk about a gold mine.
Anyway, I'll start showing the requisite level of concern when the PLAN demonstrate they can do this sort of deployment on a regular (6 - 12 monthly) basis. Otherwise a one off flag waving propaganda exercise for a domestic audience does not a blue water navy make.

Fair call re the recent deployment.
I feel it’s a case of being mindful of the PLANs limitations, yet open to their potential.
They have come a long way in 25 years.
Ship numbers are one thing , but trained crew are another.
Still I don’t want to be dismissive of their intent and capabilities.
As a nation they can make and do stuff on a grand scale.
Their maritime focus is not to be taken lightly.

Maybe they're pissed off that we forgot the baby formula at Sydney.

Looks like they’re head for Christmas Island, maybe helping out with Op Resolute?

These boys should do the navy’s recruitment videos. Awesome

For sure, very cool.

Lots of cool videos about that few people have seen.
One below is drone footage from a month ago > Arafura(203) OPV at Osborne with Eyre(204) in the background -in the water, but on the shiplift.
You can also see several of the upgrades done at the shipyard such as the lengthened wharf(about 300m) and dry berth etc
Should see Arafura in service fairly soon, Q2 and possibly Eyre Q4 or Q1 2026. Should see Pilbara rolled out this year also.
