Restrepo....rather not!
Tim did a great job on the movie with S.J. and its sad to see he got KIA. It was through the quality of the footage that we are in a position to evaluate the combatants performance. It has become my rigid opinion, after originally contending that it was not wise to air this to the world for reasons of evaluation by the Af's, that this footage should stay with US tactics officers to ammend their training methods to better equip these soldiers to win this conflict outright, quickly and mercilessly.
I got feedback from the other two individuals I refered this footage to. Both were rather horrified and amazed that this represents the state of the art as practised by US forces. They are just so bad at it. This is evident in their methods including patrolling formation, terrain usage, contact initiation, engagement tactics, and lots more.
In pure COIN terms they would not have been cleared as a unit by the battle tactic evaluation center in the army I served in to actually enter the field!( all combat units poised to enter the warzone were subjected to an extensive evaluation phase pre-deploy ) This tells me that they are simply not trained in suitable methods.
