Protection for artillerymen

Shoot and scoot... best protection there is. If your in a fixed position no amount of protection will save you from counter battery fire.

I'm thinking more in terms of protection against routine hazards (e.g., high decibel levels, hang-fire, etc.), not counter battery fire.

For example, regular tin-pot helmets preclude the use of protective ear muffs. Do other armed forces issue CVC-type helmets for their "cannon cockers"?

Inside self propelled guns they would be using CVC helmets, drag a longs would warrant Kevlar helmets with foam inserted ear plugs.

If I was their battery sargeant and caught them inside their vehicle out of uniform, I would litterly rip their balls off, they would only do it one time.
You might change your mind if your in a 140 degree cockpit.

Our artillerymen wear our standard ugly tank caps (standard for all of our armored vehicles) looking very like the russian ones.
They also use earplugs and wear the normal tank jumpsuit and another fireproven jumpsuit under this.
And live has become easier since the PzH2000 automatically loads the round. :D

Always remember.
Artillerymen do not know friend or foe just worthy targets. :D

@Big-E
I don't understand your laughing about the GW-1 tank operations.
I would have been near to shit into my pants if I would have been there to face the Iraqis and I honour every soldier who did this.

It was a joke on not wearing proper safety gear while being injured to recieve a purple heart. My cousin was one such tanker who got cut on a recoil and got his.

Ah, ok. Than I'm sorry.
Just take it as a problem of a non native speaker. :D

But cut on a recoil? How is that possible?
Is there no safety button which the loader has to hit before the gun fires? (And he should do this when he is out of risk)

Because of that I ask.

In the Leo as a loader you have to hit a button which unsafes the weapon. And you normally don't do this before being out of the way.
This was just a question of pure interest if there is such a safety button in the M1 or not.

The loader has to place the gun in fire mode after loading, but in the heat of battle and stepping on aft caps, one good slip and you could get it from the gun recoil.
