i dont want canada to get involved in this crap
we already had problems with the subs becuz we wanted to please the yanks
How did buying Upholders please the Yanks? Canada had a requirement to replace her Oberons - it was a block redundancy issue - not a political issue.

If anything the problem is with the Canadian Govt/Navy and the UK Govt/Royal Navy maybe not synchronisng expectations on the refits.

It has nothing to do with US expectations or pressure. The Canadians thought they were getting a bargain, a conventional sub based on a nuke design. What they should have realised was that if the RN was dumping what was essentially a virginal platform within a few years of acceptance, then there was more to it than just defence cuts on the UK's part.

win some, lose some. Unfortunately some poor sialor has died as a result of something that will make an interesting Naval Inquiry.

The US has been aggressor training against at least 4-5 other navies conventionals for some time. Keeping the Collins class out of it - I would argue that the other allies have subs that are far more capable than the Upholders. The Oyasho Class and the 212's being two examples. In addition, those other navies have more sub warfare experience than Canada - so at a purely technical level, it doesn't compute as a logical answer.

So, that sounds like local politics to me. Of course the US would find some convenience in training with Canadian conventionals due to demographic issues - as she used to against the RCN Oberons, but there is no way that Canada would be buying assets with an emphasis on providing their big southern neighbour with training assets. She has a block obsolesence problem, and the Upholders cover that issue off.
