A Mirage fighter aircraft of Pakistan Air Force crashed in the southwestern province of Balochistan Thursday but the pilot ejected safely, an official statement said.

The aircraft was on a "routine operational training mission" when it crashed about 45 kilometers (30 miles) northeast of the provincial capital Quetta.

"The crash apparently occurred due to technical malfunction," the statement said, adding no loss of civilian life or property on ground had been reported.

PAF Mirage crashes near Pishin

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Aug 5: A Mirage jet fighter of the Pakistan Air Force crashed in a village near Pishin on Thursday afternoon, official sources said.

According to Pakistan Air Force sources, the Mirage was on a routine flight when because of some technical fault it crashed at an abandoned place in the Sharan village. The pilot ejected and landed safely.

The accident occurred at about 1.30pm. The PAF officials rushed to the site and found the wreckage of the aircraft. The PAF Headquarters has set up a board to ascertain the cause of the accident, sources said.

I am sorry to hear about the crash, but PAF Mirages are almost 30 years old aircraft and their life span is being extented artifically at the cost of aircrew life. The recent PAF purchases from Lebanon and Libya Mirages are basically non-flyable aircrafts and are total junks.

They are just being used as spare parts... and since they got them for a good price its not all that bad :) Just enough spares to keep them going until the JF-17s replace them.

they are most mostly junks !! your absolutely rite, most of the Mirages after being de-assembled are used for parts as revival said and then most of the ROSE retrofits get those spares that they need.

man they should fly these a little less now. when ever i go to karachi there flying extreamly low. i see atleast 25 of em ever hour there. they should kool it down abit and fly em when needed. last year i was in pakistan (karachi) and it crashed right near my house at night. then when i was in lahore a bloody F-7 crashed as well :(.

probably. anyway you should see them when they fly over the houses. (the houses actually shake). you can also see the pilot looking down whilst turning.

In case of war between Pakistan and India, the 180 PAF Mirage fighter aircrafts performance would be most likely one way trip to the battle zone and hardly to return to its bases as basically flying Mirage would be like a flying coffin. The PAF Miarge are old and out of date aircrafts.

Old mirages have high crash rate just like MIG21.
Roger dont be so much passimist.
I think Roger is optimist as he is quite sure about PAF's Mirage one way trip to battle zone.(So do I) :) ...and so do our MiG 21s :D:

Than why they dont ground them. I think the technical staff in PAF and IAF knows better about it.
It is a good point raised! :?

I feel sometime, there are stupid officers, who close their eyes just to please their superior/bosses.

There are stupid officers(generals are more suitable) but in army not in Air Force.
Is PAF managed by the army or airforce? :? ;)

I assume IAF is managed and controlled by the airforce. :D:
