Assuming it's funded and staffed and supported politically (on all sides), seems a pretty reasonable range of upgrades for the NZDF…
Agreed ADMk2, this DCP has some interesting pieces while not providing any surprises.
It seems that the future RNZN maritime review and individual systems business cases will provide additional data. Especially with regard to numbers and types of FFG etc.
For myself, some points are:
- short term fitting of presumably ASM to ANZAC/P-8 upto 2028 $300m
"... enhancing its strike capabilities, particularly in the maritime domain and at longer range. Options include arming existing air and maritime platforms with missiles, such as the P-8A Poseidon fleet and the Anzac frigates or exploring other options, including land-based strike."
I really hope that NZ does not go down the land-based route, like Australia Army is interestingly attempting to justify.
- longer term strike domains upto 2039 $?
"... future refreshes will consider expanding this to other assets, potentially delivering long range strike from multiple domains."
This could the official revival of ACF. The air domain would certainly provide more flexibility and response time than a land domain system.
- C-UAS being operated by RNZAF
- C-130 and P-8 receiving upgrades
- Utility helo possibly being replaced
- Army 105mm gun replacement upto 2039 $?
"Future Land-based Strike This investment will look at replacements for the New Zealand Army’s 105mm Light Gun, which could be replaced by towed artillery (or mortars), self-propelled artillery (or mortars), or rocketbased systems."
