Have the M3s barrels etc actually worn out or have they simply reached a stamped best before date?

Would be good to keep some just in case or maybe some could find their way to Ukraine if there are still workable.

Staffing is bad, but our small arms and infantry support weapons are all great.

If we have worn out 43 M3 how long 26 M4 going last ?

They have reached the end of life per barrel, no idea what NZ Army will do, hopefully be used by the TF Battalions.

If we have worn out 43 M3 how long 26 M4 going last ?

When first introduced to replace the L14A1 they were our principle anti armour weapon we trained with as Infantry, my two specialties were Assault Pioneer & Support weapons we used those weapons constantly firing all types of ammo from qualifying soldiers, live firing exercises to Operational deployment that number 46 also included those held by NZSAS, in that time every round except sub caliber was counted and confirmed by the RCO of each live activity double checked by unit armourer on return to camp, I can remember M3 looking at what I thought were serviceable M3 but deemed by the armourer as no longer fit for service due to cracks in the parts not made of steel, the first Units to lose M3 to RF were TF Battalions once Afghanistan came along it got to the point war stocks were being issued to replace those in Battalion & for use in Op Crib. These new M4 are not the principle anti armour weapons of the Infantry so will not be as widely used or more importantly thrashed so 26 is a decent number, finally NZSAS is not included as they have there own procurement budget and can get what the like to a point.
